Hey, so I might have to replace my transmission pretty soon since I just passed 120k miles, and it seems to be in rough shape(shifting isnt smooth, think I've got some tranny fluid leaking...) If I were to have a shop install it, how much more would it be to have them install a standard transmission (including parts) than another automatic?
EDIT: I have a 96 GA SE, 2.4l engine.

where is it leaking from? Have you checked the level lately? I would run it till it breaks personally, but if you can't take the chance of being stranded one day then change it if you want. I would do a fluid/filter and gasket change before I replaced the tranny. I also added some Lucas transmission treatment and it helped smooth the shifts out. I have 132k miles on my tranny and it still is smooth.
Tranny shops can charge the right proce or the wrong price. Alot of shops way overcharge when re-building a tranny. The components, as long as the case is still good shouldn't cost more than $5-800 honestly. With labour for the rebuild between $1200-1400US and for the install I would say between $500-1200US depending on the shop. So I would say between $2000-3500US or so with install. This is obviously just a rough idea. I would add a little extra for fluids, gasket, filter, and who knows what else.
I've talked to guys who work on trannies and they say that a lot of semi-shady shops will only replace the bad parts, even though they charge ya the full amount, so definitely find a GOOD shop if you have it done and make sure they use all brand new parts.

Yea, I'll definetly be running it til it drops. I usually don't take very long trips, so it really woulnd't be a huge problem if it were to break. Thanks for the response though. I've got an appointment to change all the filters/fluids on monday and a full tune-up as well. Hopefully it should last for a while.

Sounds good. Also I wouldn't recommend flushing the system so I would just get the stuff changed. If you flush the tranny it may make everything worse.

Ok, I'll make sure not to then. I'm lucky to have a really good shop in my area that has reasonable prices, and aren't out to get people.

Haha yea, they are the ones I took my car too when I was shopping around. Made sure that I picked a car that would last longer than 1000 miles.
