As far as spray painting goes, they make a vinyl / carpet spray paint you can buy at Advance Auto.

I see no change. I see a crappy pic of 'after' followed by 2 crappy pics of 'before.' You can't tell anything, but if you used spray paint on your carpet, I don't think anybody needs a good picture to know if it looks good or doesn't look good. We all have a mental image...Rattle can paint rarely looks good on its intended surfaces; if you paint carpet with it...well...that mental image isn't a good one.

well what ever happened to the better 3.3mp camera photos that you were gonna do?
it is really difficult to see what it looks like.. stains or no stains to tell if it is indeed better.
there also is always vinyl paint too..
but there is something that you should know with painting even with canned paint. you can paint a carpet and still have it flexible and soft and everything. i have done it before on accident. the trick is to hold it far away from the surface so the paint dusts the carpet. if you dust the paint on it will settle without becoming hard and crusty. this however takes ungodly amounts of time and patience... not to mention the act of removing the carpet from the car.... but it can be done.
GrandAmSSE

Are you sure you guys aren't slightly color blind or the contrast on your monitor is too low? You can definately see a difference, and the pictures aren't significantly different in light.
Compare the center console in the before and after pictures, they look only a very slight difference in brightness.
Oh and Gray to Black will make it just darker basically, it's not like he's painting it black from white or red or some other color, because from what I remember...
Gray and black are close on the color scale.
RedGrandAm2003
03-12-2006, 10:40 AM

03-12-2006, 10:53 AM
Maybe my brightness and contrast are just high...
But it is scientifically known that most males have a slight color blindness, making the color tones darker than they usually are, not saying you guys do, just saying that also might be why =P

Doesn't seem to matter how much help you try to offer. The ONLY way I'd ever change or modify the color of my carpet would have been with dye and I'd make 100% sure before I did that I knew what I was getting my self into. It' takes just a little under an hour to PROPERLY remove the interior and free up the carpet and REMOVE it. It's very important that if your going to dye it to just remove it. I did this YESTERDAY. How ever I didn't dye my carpet. I got a carpet in damn near new condition. I could have it for 50$ if I removed it my self. So I went to work and removed it. I guess an old lady drove it or something. It pained me to see this car in the yard honestly. Red 98 GT Coupe paint in excellent condition. Car only had 87,000 on it. The point I'm trying to make here is. The interior of your car is TRASHED. And what you should honestly do is go to the Junk Yard and browse around the cars and inspect the carpets until you find one that doesn't look too bad. Buy it.. Take it home.. AND CLEAN THE EVER LIVING HELL OUT OF IT! You might as well clean your seats and everything else as well. I got a new center console for my car the one I had was scratched from the seat belt clicker on both sides of it. Something tells me since you painted your console it's suseptable to the same treatment. Not that it will or already has but it's a possibility.

I can see the difference but still notice the "browning" spots. Hopefully it lasts but I would still recomend you use a good carpet cleaner, like a steamer, can rent, doesn't cost a whole bunch. Then let it dry then get some carpet dye,it isn't real expensive and it will look 100x better. I need to do the same to mine but Im just getting new carpet, its 150 and its new so Id rather just get new.
Dargasonus
03-12-2006, 09:16 PM
Yeah...get the spray paint off, let a experienced (no thats not you grandamsse) detailer steam the carpet clean, and then dye it. It's just a little bit more expensive than paint, a couple dollars, and it will come out aot better.

03-12-2006, 09:21 PM
id recommend getting a couple floor mats (at least for the front) to help protect the carpet from further damage. A pair of those all weather rubber ones will help keep them from absorbing a lot of water/snow/mud.

I see, I see - you only lightly sprayed it so it would be more of a charcoal color as opposed to spraying on 3-5 coats to get a black color, but the carpet would have become hard if ya did that! Ive gotta say, thats pretty clever and I like the look of it more than the old, faded, stained carpet you used to have.
Way to be innovative with low funds, also way to plan it out so you woudlnt screw it up.

It looks alot better, but I can still see where the stains are, but that would be hard to get rid of w/o replacing the carpet completely.
I think the paint will rub off, and to have to keep pulling the interior to recoat would be to much of a hastle.
