Hey,

I'm new to the board, but I have a problem. I did search around first, but not find a similar problem.

I replaced my monsoon HU with a new Alpine deck into my 2001 grand am GT. Like an idoit, I hacked off the stock deck connecter. This was before I discoverd this site and those handy adapters. Everything sounds great with the stereo, but now my dash is very messed up.

About 10 seconds after I start the car, all four of the guages stop working; including speedometer, rpm's, temp, and gas. Aslo, at the same time, the following lights come on, and stay on;
Battery
air bag
oil
security
serv eng soon
abs
seatbelt
brake
serv vehicle soon
trac off

I checked all the fuses and they seem fine. Any help would be great, thanks.

Honestly, you're most likely screwed, man. Hacking into the original harness most likely screwed up your electrical system, then did something to your computer, and bam... Nothing works, lights go on and off at whim, or they stay on like you said. Your best bet would be to bring this to a professional as quickly as possible and explain to them exactly what you did. I would also consider picking up a new harness (factory) from a junkyard or dealership.

First rule of car audio: NEVER MESS WITH THE ORIGINAL HARNESS!

is there enough room to connect the original wires back to the harness? Then from that get an adaptor. I did what you did several years back with me lumina, and my brother did that last year (on purpose) to a jeep. You have it wired wrong. It can be hardwired like you have it but no offense I would let a pro take care of it for ya

Its fixed. We had a purple wire, which we found out is the gain control wire, tied into one of the speakers. Don't ask why. By the way, the new system sounds amazing and I don't have any security/warning lights on. Of course the chimes don't work, but I knew that going in.

I guess I didn't screw it up too bad by cutting the stock harness. I tried to make it clear in my first post that I really am a newbie when it comes to car stereos, but I guess some people still need to point out the obvious.

Anyway, thanks for the input and the good wishes. This is a great site that I can lean a lot from.

Thanks,
Anthony

well. i spose that your fine then, although, you would have been better off buying a harness, that way it would make changing receivers much easier in the future, oh well.
