When I sold my GA, I just took the stereo out and left everything sitting covered up in my closet for several months. When I had it put in my new car, one of the subs would not work and the guy at the shop said it was siezed and that sometimes they do that after they have sat unused for a long time. Is this a BS story and if not, is it at all possible to repair?

??? My sub tube sat in my trunk unused for a good 6months in the cold no less and it still works. Did he offer to sell you another sub?

i just had it all put in like it was since they both were already mounted and all, so I just have the one even though they are both in the enclosure.

if its seized, its not worth investing time in repairing in. Just trash it.

hopefully it wasnt too expensive of a sub. i can see a sub siezing because of oxidation, but y would an amp "sieze", thier isnt much to physically sieze, its all pretty much solid state. i guess a solder joint could go bad.

Nothing in an amp will "seize" because it's all solid state devices...you are correct. Solder joint won't go bad either. BUT...Dust is a bitch! It's pretty amazing how cunductive a thin layer of dust can be. If and amp (or any nonsealed electrical device) sits long enough, the dust buid up on the circuit boards could be enough to short components and what not. You may never see it turn on it could happen so fast. The best thing to do is open it up and blow it out before you turn it on.

As far as the sub....I've never heard of a speaker "seizing"...I guess it could happend because it a mechanical device, but wow...that's a new one :)

yeah obvioiusly amps don't seize. they short out. Dependion on how they're stored, dust, moisture and what not could find their way inside and it's game over.
