I have a 93 GA with a 3.3L in it that is junk, and I was wondering if a 2.8L out of a camaro would fit in with minor trouble. The GA's got the three speed i think it's the 3T40. I'm not to familiar with these sideways V6's so I want some professional advise. Thanks in advance!

i serously doubt a small block would swap in very well then again i don't know...

i realy would love to see what it'd take to get a 3800sc up there though ;-)

small block? the 2.8 is a smaller v6 than the 3.3. i say go for the 3800 sc its the same block as the 3.3 and should go in without too much work. but since everything is controlled by computers you would have to get the wiring harness and the computer out of a car that had the 3.8 sc

doh i saw camero and automaticly though of the v8 lol

still think a 3800 would be fun :) but that won't happen for my car... more likely a quad HO head swap along w/ the rest of the crap that needs swaped over.

Why would you want to put that 2.8 in the GA? That enging only has like 135 HP. My husband has an 86 camaro with that engine. I raced him one time and kicked his butt. I was really shocked since I only have a Quad4, but then we looked up the specs on that engine in a book he has and it said it only has 135 HP. So now I know why I beat it, well that HP rating and the weight difference. :) (John or someone else correct me if I am wrong)

No your correct, the 2.8 is only about 135hp or so.
Not worth it at all, first off it won't just 'bolt right in'.
There are FAR better motors that will swap in ALOT easier.

Ok, here's the deal, I have a 93 GA that has a 3.3L in it, but the block is cracked making the engine trash. So, I am able to get a 2.8L engine for free, and I was just wondering if it would bolt in to the car with little trouble, so i would have a beater car for travel back and forth to college. As far as the 3800sc engine, yeah that would be fun, but I allready have one in my Grand Prix, I just want to have the GA to take all my long miles, I'm not worried about power in that car. Thanks again

Given the height that the supercharger adds to the 3800, I have doubts as to whether you could get the hood closed - you'd probably need a customized piece.

It wouldn't be an easy swap, either.

There is no reason a 2.8 would go where a 3.3 was easily. There was never an instance where the two were offered in the same car. Odds are, the computer and trannie would both have to be swapped as well. And then there's the mounting issues.

Computer and mounting would be the biggest problems I think. The tranny may bolt up just fine, though I don't know the 2.8s very well (especially the ones in RWD applications). The 2.8 would not run with the 3.3L's programming, and the mounts are very likely quite different. But that's not to say it can't be done...

I'd say the tranny has a good chance of working with the 2.8L at least...

The 3400 is a stroker version of the 3100, the 3100 is an evolution of the 3.1 MPFI V6, and the 3.1 is a bored and stroked version of the 2.8 MPFI V6. There's no reason that the engine WOULDN'T fit where the 3.3 previously resided. And it's a given that the 2.8 'puter will have to be used.

My question is, how old is this Camaro engine? There was a 2bbl. 2.8l V6 available before the MPFI version, which made 120bhp.

Also, was it attached to a 5spd. manual in the Camaro? If so, then it won't work - the output spline at the business end of the crank will be incompatible.
