View Full Version : no DRL's
ok so is this still accurate if i do this i can just drive with my foglights on and not my headlights ?? and also the bcm is located right under the dash correct?
no drl
at the BCM, locate Connector C2 (center)
On the "B" side row of pins, locate the dark blue wire (b4)
Cut this wire, leaving as much as possible still attached to the BCM.
Now simply add on a piece of wire to the side that is still connected to the body control module. attach this wire to a good ground, like a screw in the metal part of the dashbehind the glove box or I used the interior light mounting bracket screw right there next to the BCM.
The BCM now see's this to mean that the regular headlights are on, and so it energizes the relay that turns off the DRL's.
thats it.. no more DRLs. ALC and independant fogs will be posted soon. I want to make sure I have the proper connector pins for them.

well it looks like you did a search and found the stuff you need. just be cause its 2006 now and that was written for a 99+ and you have a 99 doesnt mean your car updated, so its still good.
nope i just wanted to make sure there was no problems with that guide that was made.. b/c i dont want to go do it and than be getting SVS lights.

If its during the day you wanted your fogs on.. cut the parking light wire (bulb 197) and your good to go with only fogs. That'd work lol.
no i want to have it so that i can turn the lights on and off with the switch tothe left of the wheel .... how would that be done?

If you follow that tutorial, you'll be able to use your fogs and parking lights without the headlights on. I did the mod to my 2000 GT1, and it works fine. No problems at all.. believe me, it is nice to have full control of my lights ..... damn automatic sensor would think darkness was coming, and turn my headlights on automatically... even if I just drove into a shady area, lol !!
So I did the mod and I have full control now; not G.M. or automatic light sensors.
I found that I could reach the BCM easier when I took my glovebox out. Can't offer too much help on the wiring, as I had assistance with mine; but I can vouch for that (year 2000) tutorial though... worked very well for my 2000.
Tommy
so now your lights stay off until you turn them on with the control on the right?
ok what i want to do is have my lights so that they are off and when i flick the switch they come on.. i dont want my headlights on at all and i just want to be able to drive with just my fog lights on could you tell me where to find a 'how to' do this.

There really isnt one. Thats why you've asked so many times. Atleast not to my knowledge. You can take a white LED and making it shine into the light sensor thats in the windshield vent on the dash. but thats about it... I think?

Yes, that is correct. My headlights stay off until I want them turned on. That ALC sensor (in the defroster vent) used to annoy me so much because it was too sensitive. I would drive into a dense shade area, and it would think darkness was coming and turn the headlights on to full brightness. That mod was so damn easy too.... it should be in that tutorial along with the DRL's too. All it involved was to simply snip the two thin wires going to the ALC sensor, and "jump" the two wires together. Easy as that... no more automatic headlight annoyances. Note though..... that does not stop your DRL's though; it is that seperate mod that is done at the BCM module, but it is listed in that tutorial.
I had a bitch of a time getting access to that damn ALC sensor.... I had to take out heater duct work to reach those two thin wires that go to the ALC sensor. Once the heater stuff was out of the way, it was simple....
As far as the DRL's, follow that tutorial closely and take your time. You don't want to go and cut the wrong wire at that BCM. Have a good flashlight so you can easily see the different colored wires coming out of the BCM. Luckily I had some help from a neighbor who was a G.M. mechanic for many years.....he helped me do mine. Ihe moved to another town so I can't ask him any questions, darn it.... But follow that tutorial and you should have no problems. Also.....make certain that you follow the correct tutorial for your year Grand Am. The one we followed was specific for '99 and 2000's. Different years have different wiring....
Whew.... I gotta take a break from typing, lol... This took me over 30 minutes to type, lol. I can only type "finger by finger" with one finger. I can type neatly, but it takes me forever to type something, lol... Hope I was some help to you....

 Thats funny. But yeah, take his advice and thats how you do it. Or take the easy way, and put a flashlight down there and leave it turned on? lolol

Damn-it-all... I just tried to post a pic here, and I cannot resize it correctly. I took a photo of a switch I installed way inside my glovebox. It is an "on - off " switch for the DRL's; just in case I need them turned on for some reason. It is even labled "DRL's on"; and "DRL's off". I don't know how the hell it was wired, because I had my neighbor do it..... but I do remember it was a "double throw; 6 post" type toggle switch. One of the posts went to a good ground (for the mod to shut off the DRL's); the other post restored the DRL's to the factory on position. Worked great; a simple flip of the switch restores them if I ever want them turned on. But with the price of my SilverStars, I don't want the premature bulb burnouts because of the DRL's running the bulb at half-brightness, lol.
If anyone wants to see the pic of my switch, give me your e-mail address and I'll be happy to send it to you. For some reason, it will not allow me to put the pic here (too big). That way if you know how to resize it, maybe you could post it here for anyone else too.... I tried lowering the pixel size in Irfanview, and I gave up trying to figure it out......it wont allow me to post it here.... too big.

yeah you can resize it with paint. :) You just have to go stretch part and lower it. Good luck! :D
