Well it's come to a spot where Im not sure what I can put in my door. I have stock 4X6 plates at the moment. But I wonder what I can fit in my door safely. I'm just curious what I can put in other than a 4X6....

Ive had a pair of 6.5s in my doors for over a year now, they're 3 way speakers, so you know theyre a bit deep, and ive never had a problem... I think any speakers that arent more than 3 inches deep would fit fine.

1/4 inch ones of ebay work just as well, just have to make a hole or two that doesnt line up right at first. If youve got everything there to make your own so much the better. lol:)

I had a set of 6.5's in my doors for well over 2 years now. I just modified the stock speaker holder to hold my 6.5's. Nothing you cant do with a dremel and drill. :D

Here's a thread with some decent info:
"6.5's up front in a '97" (http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50699)

Unfortunately, there's no comprehensive list of what fits and what doesn't, but pretty much any 5.25 or 6.5 set can be made to fit depending on how much work you're wiling to do and how you want to mount the speaker. It comes down to the depth of the speaker, and that varies by brand.

I just went though the front speaker decision making process myself and personally, I've found the best way to get input is to decide what brand of speaker you want to use by going out and listening and doing research on reliability and quality, and then ask if anyone has specific experience with installing the particular model or models you choose.

well, the only thing you have to worry about is hitting the window, and even then you have something like 3" of play, and most speakers arent that deep. just about any speaker will fit. but im using a 3/4 thick bracket, so that will give me extra play with the componets im getting.
