where did you get the install kit? A tray like that below the HU would be pretty nice. Also, what kind of dampening material is on your doors? How do you like that?

Thanks, I'm loving the Polks so far. The mids are nice and full and the highs are sharp, but not to the point of being harsh. As far as the 6x9s go, I honesly just went with the cheapest pair of halfway decent quality I could find, and I got a great deal on the Alpines.

The install kit is just the one from Bestbuy, I don't know what the model number is, but yeah, I wouldn't do it any other way, i think it just looks cleaner and I use that space for all sorts of stuff. The white stuff on my doors is the factory sound dampening, if you'd call it that. It's basically just thick batting, like what you'd stuff a pillow with, but I'm sure it helps a bit.

DFizzle, can you tell me what is the part number of the dash install kit. I was looking for this one with the "pocket" underneath the stereo and even bought couple but they didn't fit. I started a thread couple a weeks ago, asking for this dash kit brand and number but no one answered. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Nevermind, I read your last post. I'll go check BestBuy tomorrow.

I think the kit number was GM-k420 if I remember correctly, but I'm not positive about that.

Yeah, I was wondering that myself. I had bought one from Summit racing but it didn't fit.

It's listed for use in the 99+ so I doubt it, but you might be able to mod it.

Also, walmart carries the Scosche brand install kits. I got mine there for the 04' dash, it has the pocket below and works out nicely.
this one should work for the 92-99 GA's

i know its a old thread (5 months), by the end of next month i should have all my sound system products.
but i was wondering, was your tweeters an easy install or did you have to do some modifications to it...i couldnt find any other pics you posted that showed it installed.
looks great though.

if you don't mind my 2 cents, I put in some tweeters 1" instead of the factory .75"(?) and it wasn't hard at all. With a dremel in hand it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.....lol and yes mine look nicely done

cool...i was planning on swapping out the factory tweets anyways, but i just wanted to see how much longer it would take to do it while i do my fronts, backs, subs.

I'd say go for it. I amped them and running the wire through the door was the most time consuming of the whole install. Anyway if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Last weekend I just swapped out my fronts for a pair of Boston Acoustics SX50 components. All I had to do was take out the old factory twet, the screen, and put the BA twets in. They fit fine in the stock housing. Just for piece of mind I used a little hot glue to make sure they weren't ever gonna go anywhere.
All in all took me about 15 mins to do!

just make your own out of mdf or plywood. Take the speaker and trace it out on the wood. Did so with a buddy's jeep. Sounded great and didn't take much time

Strange seeing this thread resurrected. I actually just took that deck out this past weekend (not that I didn't love it) and put in my new Kenwood DVD (http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63985).
Jonathan, I ended up cutting out the mounting tabs for the stock tweets so that the Polk tweets would sit flush. They probably would have fit without doing that, but I didn't want them sitting that far back from the screen. After I got them glued in I thought it would have been a great idea to take the Polk badge off the front of the new tweeter and put it on the outside of the stock grill. Since I didn't think of it until after I thought I'd share that for anyone else who might want to try it. Once I got the mounting tabs out of the way it went in fine and I just glued around it. I can always pull it out and put the factory one back in the same way if I every wanted to. Since you have factory components it's a quick swap, might have taken me 15 minutes (plus the actual wiring). If you didn't have stock tweets it would obviously take a bit more work.
tdewitt27, I had 4x6s stock, I didn't know you could get 5x7s from the factory, I was under the impression all 99+ GAs had the 4x6s up front. That's good advice from Ryan though, just make your own, it's really not that tough. If you really don't want to do that you can get the adapters from any number of places (crutchfield, best buy, auto zone, etc). Just out of curiosity, what made you decide on 5x7 comps?

anyone know how big the stock front grill is...cause i want to put the Polk grill over that one, maybe do what DFizzle did and put the badge on the stock tweeter grill (if i go that route), and the rear most likely will have the the polk grill too. might as well show what you got :D
and DFizzle, your cars coming out sweet...new deck, new subs, etc...this was a way older thread, but this was the closest thread to what i wanted to ask :D

Thanks Jonathan, I'm pretty happy with it. Not a big performance guy but the sound needs to be on point. Now that I've got the new screen I think I'm pretty much set. I may still amp the Polks at some point, but that would be down the road a bit, if I do it at all.
As for your stock grill question, the sail pannel is really easy to pull off and the stock tweet just pulls out of the tabs so it's not tough to just pull it out and take a look for yourself. I'd say that 90% of the time you're not going to be able to just pull off the stock grill, drop an aftermarket tweet in and have it look right, that's why I thought the Polk badge idea would be a good option. You never know though, give it a look.
