side mirrors

i know that the gt has body colored side mirrors.....but the se has black mirrors......

but is that the only difference in the two? say....i have an se....some drunk falls on my mirror.....i need new mirrors......can i just order the gt mirrors and have them painted to match my car? it seems like they would work....and it also seems like the mirrors on my mother's grand prix are exactly the same as well....so imagine this is the case...but i just want to know before i pay to order a set of mirrors that for some reason....won't work with my car...

Actually the new GT mirrors are black also they are the new alero style mirrors and all of them are black :( I think the GP's mirrors are a little different but im not positive never looked close enough to tell. ANd as far as putting GT mirrors on the SE I would assume so since most of the other parts are interchangable. But lets see what other people think. Unless you like go to a junk yard and get them i bet they dont come painted. Most things dont.

well.....i had some bad luck with my car within the past week....so the cost of the mirrors themselves are gonna be covered by other people.....

got hit on one side....drunk kid fell on the other....so....both mirrors will be replaced.... and i'll prolly just quote them a price a bit on the high side.... you know....emotional suffering and all.....endangerment for only havin one mirror..that kinda thing..heh... and then i'll be left with about 50 bucks more to pay to have them painted...so that's no big deal.....

it's just i want to be assured that they're the same mirrors.....

I just went outside (I'm parked next to a co-workers 01 GT) and looked at their mirrors and then some of another co-workers 00 SE and they are the same.

The '99-2002.5 GT mirrors aren't acually painted... They're molded in the color of the car. Black SE and GT mirrors are exactly the same. But, when it comes to replacement mirrors, you can't get the GT mirrors in the molded colors. They come black, and must be painted to match.

The 2002.5-2003 mirrors are the same between the SE and GT, only come in molded black plastic, and are shaped like the Alero mirrors, with one important difference: The Alero mirrors were the "Breakaway" hinged design, the new GA mirrors aren't.

GP mirrors look the same, but they will not fit the GA. Many have tried. ;)

Thanks for the info shawn well I hope I never hit anything with my mirros then :P I wonder why the alero has breakaway mirrors yet they gave us the same mirrors but they arent.....typical.....

I've been wondering the same thing... Why not just use the existing Alero mirror design for the GA? Each mirror may be more complex, but all the production tooling has already been done. :shrug: Just one of those things you'll never know I guess.

The Alero mirrors (all the ones I have seen) are painted... the newest Grand Am GT mirrors are not painted. I am going to get the ones on my SC/T painted... you can tell the difference even on a black car... and both of my cars are black.

Yeah all the ones on the alero are painted. I've been trying to decide whether I wanted to have mine painted silver or not....

ahh my poor baby! i decided i was going to be stupid today and run my driver side rearview mirror into the side of our garage.. now i gotta pay 100$ bucks cdn for a new one.. my question is.. how easy is it to install a new mirror? i was thinking of doing it myself.. doesnt seem to hard except i have no idea abou power mirrors and how they attach to the actual mirror.. if its like a stereo and you can clip it out.. ill do it myself.. otherwise i loose my car for a day and have to pay 40 bucks for my mechanic to fix it... damn.. can anyone help?

Some Alero mirrors are painted, some are not. I think the base model GX is the only one with black mirrors. Though I also think that al the 03 models come with black mirrors now.

The 99-03 Alero and GAGT mirrors are easily interchangable. I have GAGT mirrors on my Alero. They are extremely easy to change.

Remove the tweeter pod, just pulls off, then remove the foam piece behind it. You will see 3 bolts holding the mirror on. The electrical connection is made a few inches down into the door. You can carefully pry the door panel off in this corner to be able to reach the connection to disconnect it.

Took me aobut 15-minutes to switch my mirrors out. I picked mine up off a savage yard on www.car-part.com for $60/pr shipped and color matched to my car. ;)
