This is for all you guru's here. I already tried to do asearch and couldn't find what i'm looking for. Here's the problem, I just bought an iPod and connected it to my pioneer HU with the cables that were supplied and itplays through my AUX input. Now I can only control the volume from the iPod the HU volume doesn't work when in use. I can not use a different EQ because it won't do anything again unless I change it on the iPod. Finally the sound quality in't all that great it's like it crackles if i turn it up too much on the iPod. Any help would be great thanks in advance. Sorry about the long post too.

Couple of questions for you:

1) When you say "cables that were supplied" do you mean with the deck, or with the iPod? Does the cable run from your headphone jack on you iPod or from the dock connector, because you'll get better sound from a dock connection but the headphone connection is more common.

2) What model Pioneer HU do you have? When you say it's playing through your AUX in, does the deck have a dedicated AUX in or did you convert the changer port to RCA and then run a cable from that.

It's strange that it wouldn't let you adjust the volume. I have my iPod hooked up to my Pioneer DEH-P5800mp using the IP-Bus to RCA cable (this (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ui8ClgfqHRX/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=227550&I=469PIOPRCA)) and then an RCA to Mini-plug (this (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ui8ClgfqHRX/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=043183190)) and it lets me adjust the volume on the deck or the iPod and I can adjust the levels on the AUX source as well.

As far as the crackling goes, I use a Belkin Auto Kit (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=193794), which utilizes the iPod dock and then has a plug for the AUX in from my deck. It also has a built in amp which helps with the signal strength coming from the iPod to get rid of any distortion at higher volumes, plus it charges the iPod at the same time.

Here's a picture from when I was trying it out, it looks a little cleaner now that I ran the wires differently, but you get the idea. The blue cable is the RCA to Mini-plug cable and then that grey cable runs to the dock on the iPod. (the thing on top of the iPod is my airclick remote).

I bought a $16 Headphone to RCA cable. The rest is pretty easy, and everyhting works fine. More info is needed to solve your problem.

I have an iPod nano when it was bought it came with the "smoke" pack. In the pack was an RCA cable that plugs into the headphone jack then into the RCA input in the back of the HU. The only thing that I can figure on is that the radio is so old. I mean the iPod plays and all i just can't adjust the volume using the HU, I can only adjust it on the iPod itself. Then I can'tadjust the EQ or my subs either. I can sit there and change EQ'sall day and it sounds the same, I can crank up the bass knob all the way and that too doesn't do anything. Everything works fine for everything else (radio, cd player etc.)just not with the iPod. The HU is a Pioneer 3500 so thats why I think it might be it since it's so old.

Does the 3500 have a built in AUX in? If this (http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIODEHP3500) is your deck then I don't think it does. I might be looking at the wrong deck though.
