This will be my 3rd LIM job for me. Had to have it done on my other two (GA 97`& 04 SE1) and now on my 04 GT with only 36k Km on it. My question is will GM after requesting it install with the modified Felpro gaskets for this job or will they force me to use their original GM gaskets that create the problem in the first place ? ( this will be a warranty job). It is of my understanding from posts on this forum that Felpro has made a better gasket for this cursed GM LIM gasket leak problem.

Maybe you should ask for Felpro? I'm not sure about warranties...never owned a car under warranty yet...( 93 T-bird and 94 GAGT )

No, they will use GM parts. Period.
After all, the dealer is being provided parts for free from Detroit/GM headquarters, and GM is writing them a check for the dealer's mechanic's labor.
But IIRC, GM did the gasket Redesign, and FelPro followed.
The 'new' GM gaskets, from what I understand, are much better than the previous model.
But then, I'm surprised your '04 has the problem; I thought it was cured.
Check and see if the new LIM gasket comes with its own warranty that extends the factory warranty.
Good luck.

Well I spoke with the local GM dealer service manager. He says that they will have to use GM gaskets but said that GM changed their LIM gaskets design in 2004. feels that possibly my 04 GT came with an engine made prior to the change. I asked him if they were similar to FelPro design and said he will at least check with his supplier to compare. I asked about the new gasket warranty and said it would not extend the existing warranty on vehicule - in other words once the 60K km arrives its my costs if it has to be replaced again. Another GM dealer once told me that its probably the only cost for having a GM - I responded yes if you catch the problem in time before permanent engine oil/coolant damage occurs.

Update : local dealership says even though they see the leak but the oil in the crankcase is not foamy yet so they won`t replace the damm gasket. I said that by the time the oil is foamy from the apparent leaking LIM gasket - IT IS TOO LATE to prevent major engine damage. Gonna go to another dealer for the job and gonna raise shit with GM. This is my 3rd LIM problem on my 3rd GA (04). At the service bay today - It was like watching a guy killing his own job for the very near future - unless he doesn`t mind working for a few dollars an hour in China for GM`s new plants.
