Anyone with steps or pics on how to replace the cigarette lighter for a 99 Grand Am SE? I dont smoke but I need the lighter for my radar detector. I checked the fuse for the lighter and the fuse for the detector and both are good. So it must be the lighter itself...

The wire may have pulled out of the back of the lighter housing. Pull the radio trim and take a look. You can check for power while you are in there.

Why don't you just hardwire it in directly to the fuse box? Then you wont have the unsightly coiled up power cord to deal with.....

i have a 2000 so it should be the same for you. first take out the cigarrette lighter then reach under that little compartment towards the back and you will feel \the end of the plastic piece that wraps under from the dash. pull back and it should pop off easily. i have had mine off multiple times nd havent broken any clips on it.

You have to be careful with the ring around the key hole. The whole thing pulls straight off, no screws, all clips.

if anyone could show me some pics about where to start or something...it would be a help. I've done stuff like that with my dads old Mazda...but the clips were junk and broke easy so i'm a little hesitant to pull off stuff like that. Any picture of where i should start from or something like that would be greatly appreciated...

I say just take the chance and give it a pull. I have never broken one and I am well a little rough at times. :)

yeah the bottom. just reach behind the shifter and pull directly towards you... the ring around the ignition will hit you. dont worry about it, it just clips back in :)
