The speed cable on the wagon

Ok on my 84 the speed-o is dead. I jack up the car and took the cable off the tranny. I connected the cable to my drill and guess what? I was doing 75mph. So the question is, what needs to be replace on the tranny to get the speed-o back working. The connector on the tranny looks fine.

IIRC there is a plastic gear inside where the speedo cable hooks up. There were different gears to match the rear end so the MPH's were correct.
