i have a bunch of problems with my 89 ga 2.5l. It has codes all over the place. Four sensor codes, i think it might need a water pump as well. My bro has a 91 2.5l s10 w/ 5spd. My ga is an auto. Will his iat sensor, oxygen sensor, or anything work on my motor? any info appreciated. thanks in advance

Water pump will not work, but jack his IAT Sensor, oxygen sensor (if its a one wire model), and anything else if he isn't looking :P Doesn't hurt if you try it out, they are pretty much the same except for fwd and rwd.

if they are both 2.5L, yes. they are both the same engine except for the pulleys. not sure about water pump and starter.

To confirm interchangability, go to a parts website like Checker or NAPA.

Look up the part numbers for one vehicle, then for the other vehicle.
Compare numbers.
Match? Bingo!!
No match? Prolly, no go; but *mebbe* just a slight difference. On electronic parts, prolly not work the risk of frying either the part or the PCM 'cuz of incompatible voltages.

Hope this helps.

PS:
Relative to the '88 GA and the '91 S-10: They were both OBD-I operating system, so there's a good chance of compatibility.
Also ignition and injectors, mebbe fuel pump too.

just to let you guys know that it seems like most sensors were the same. I pretty much just took everything off the s10 with the cracked block and everything fit on my 89 ga. cool. it seems to be running well now. It was almost undriveable but now doesn't even seem to sputter. I'll let you know if it keeps up the good performance. I switched over the egr, oxy sens, iat and others. I think there was about 6 i replaced all together. The oxygen sensor looked different but fit. The air filter was the same too but the water pump, alternator were different.

Yea the only things that shouldn't work on your engine is the water pump (completely different design), alternator and starter.

update: my car is still sputtering like crazy. It seemed fine at first but today went back to the way it was. a couple weeks back. What are the symptoms of a bad water pump? Would it cause car to stall? Another thing i noticed was that there are explosions happening inside my air cleaner assembly. This couldn't be caused by a bad water pump could it? Or maybe a reversed fuel filter? Any ideas. I'm pretty sure the water pump is hooped. I've replaced the thermostat and put in some block sealer but coolant is still leaking. it must be coming out of pump weep hole or something. pretty much i just want to know what symptoms are of bad water pump. thanks
