I know this subject is all over the place on here, but I am @ school, no time to search. Just wondering what the total cost of changing the LIM Gasket on a 99 3.4v6. Also a parts list would be very helpful.

Thanks!!

I had my LIM gasket replaced today. It cost me $850, which included labor, parts, oil, coolant, and a new thermostat. Maybe u can find it cheaper but it still will probably be costly.

You can do it yourself for about 50 bucks, that's on the high side

I just spent 1,000.00 (3.4). Also had the water pump (which is why I finally addressed the issue..the LIM had been leaking externally for a long time). New serpentine belt and plugs, oil, and stat. I had them put the good ol' green stuff back in.

Yeah, maybe you can do it your self for $50. But then there is the time factor. Or do you believe in working for free? And the "tool" factor.
And then theres the warranty factor. If it ain't right you don't have no one to complain to, and hopefully get it fixed with out spending more cash.
Then theres the thing, that not everyone, even the ones that think they are. That are really qualified to do the job. And it can end up costing way more than to have it fixed in the first place.
If you DIY, and goof it up. Then that $1000 job turns into a $3000 or $4000 for a new engine. Or a late model car that just gets sold as a nonrunning junker. I saw a 1999 advertized for $400 that has a nonrunning engine the other day.
It may all sound simple writting about it or talking about it. But doing the job and doing it correctly is way different.
Thats why we read storys here about rebuilt engines that are still overheating etc. And that is why even when you take it to a dealer or whome ever car shop, the same thing can happen. Those are the ones that "think" they can do it. LOL
I'd say 1 in 50 mechanics are really qualified to do the job they do everyday. I know I have worked with lots of em in the past.
Oh and more about the tool factor. If a person spends 30K on a backhoe, he expects to get at least $50 an hour for it.
But if a mechanic spends $30K on his tools, he doesn't get hardly any return on the $ spent for his/her equipment. Mechanics work hard for their money. Thats my .02

I'am sure just the lim gasket kit is 150.00, plus other small gaskets are all extra, 50 bucks seems really cheap.
