Hey,
I (well my girlfriend) has a '97 grand Am GT with a 3100.
The car died on her the other day. I guess the oil light has been comming on and off now for a while. I checked it about a week before this happened and the oil was fine, so I figured nothing of it. I though the gauge was just bad. Anyway, after it died I checked it again, and nothing. Barely anything at all showing up on the dipstick.

Thing is, the car died like it ran out of gas. I was with her when it happened. No knocking or any sounds out of the ordinary. Simply driving and it shut off. Try to start it and just one click. Starter doesn't crank, nothing but one click. This leads me to believe the engine is seized. Just the way it died tells me something different

So I was thinking. My '03 explorer has a switch that shuits the engine off if the oil level or pressure (I forget which one) gets too low. Is there something like that on a grand am?

Any opinions?

I just want to rule everything else out before buying an engine.
And does anyone have an motor for sale?

Nevermind. Something stupid got it started. Onto the next thing. This has been an ongoing issue....before this even happened:

The car just feels slow. I mean, it takes over 12 seconds to get to 60. Definatley slower than it used to be. Plugs/wires were all changed recently. That's not it. I don't believe it's the fuel or air filter as they are somewhat new. Any ideas? Engine isn't throwing any codes, either

Check the cat. That's usually case I notice. A visual check is after you run your car and your exhaust it RED HOT then the cat is clogged to the max.
