Afternoon guys and gals,
I'm starting to look heavily at the 2006 Honda Civic Si coupe and the 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe.
I was just wondering if anyone's had any experience with those two vehicles: positive and negative.
The Si is an amazing vehicle, and is a steal at the price it is, I've been told. It has a lot of amazing options for the price.
However, the EX has extremely good gas milage, but a much smaller horsepower output (140 compared to 197). I would be getting a manual, no doubt, but I'd like to hear the pros and cons of each, if you have experience or word of mouth.
I never thought it would come to the day where I was looking at Civics, but the new Civics are pretty nice cars, and they seem extremely reliable. My heart is always with GM, though, remember that. And whatever car I decide to get, I'm staying on this board.

Honda should only sell bikes. (kidding)
Actualy....A friend of mine owns an SI, and he loves it. His previous car was an Alero, and he says he will never go back to GM again.
Take that for what it's worth.
The new SI is everything that the last gen should've been. For the money, it is an outstanding vehicle. It handles great (especially for a FWD), is quick, gets good gas milage, and should be reliable.
It needs summer tires (I think they're an option - but it understeers somewhat badly on the stock all seasons).
You could also alternatively look at getting a used RSX Type S - about equivalent performance, and should be cheaper, but then, it's used. The 06 Si doesn't have the aftermarket support of other Civics yet, but it's brand new, just wait a bit.
Check out Club SI's forum on the new 06 (http://forums.clubsi.com/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB48). You can find some informative threads (http://forums.clubsi.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=6707580&an=0&page=0).
Just don't rice it out ;)

Well personally, I don't like the look of the new Honda's at all. However, I absolutely hate the hatchbacks and if I remember correctly the 06 Honda Civic SI is a hatchback. bleh. But you can take that 06 Honda EX and put the Honda's V6 ( maybe ) or get a K2 Cammed K20A2 ( if I remember correctly the K2 cam with bored out block gives the K20 317 horsepower and about 228 ft-lbs of torque, not exact on numbers. )

It's not a hatchback :).

I have.
I sat in a Cobalt SS/NA. It was a step up from most past GM cars. The interior, well of decent (note: decent) quality was unappealing and catered to what seemed to be a very rental car look.
The interior panels on a 2006 GTP coupe I sat in felt flimsy compared to the Mazda6 I sat in.
I still need to find a Civic Si for the dealer to even let me look at. They don't stay on the lot long enough, for one, and when they do, they are touchy with who they let look at it.
Yeah, hot cars are tough to get test drives in. I couldn't test drive my car until I had practically signed all of the papers.

I'm sure with cars like the WRX STi and the Si, people just want to test drive it to get their jollies off, though.

I've seen a few coupes but mostly sedans up close. All I can say is wow. This ain't the Civic I remember from when I was a kid.
Some dealerships are friendlier than others, but especially when they first came out, most dealerships wanted money in hand before they handed the keys even for a test drive. Of course, the dealership that I bought my car from, I now despise, and I've yet to talk to anyone who has bought their car there and been happy about it...
One kid was revving the engine of an Evo inside of a dealership's building when he accidentally popped out the clutch and went through the glass wall... and after that, especially, I noticed a trend in the ease in which you can get test drives..
So, didja buy the Si yet? :-P

Com'on man. It's a car. What it looks like from the outside and how it drives is more important than the materials in the dash. If you need to gently caress the subtle plastics and faux aluminium of the interior -- you're a different man than I. I would take a torquey G6 GTP over a high-revving honda but that's just me. As long as the interior doesn't rattle as I go over bumps, I'm happy.

I dunno about you, but I see the inside of the car a whole lot more than I see the outside of the car. I'd rather have a decent interior with great seats and solid materials where I touch (steering wheel, shifter, other major controls, armrest, etc).
Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. I really like how the Dodge Magnum looks, but the upper inside part of the door (where you'd rest your arm if the window rolled down) is flimsy and flexes when I rest my arm on it - ugh.

I can appreciate what your saying but I have to disagree. Exterior styling is what everyone else sees. And let's be honest, if your driving an expensive vehicle, it's more about being seen than it is about the interior plastics. From a purely driver's point of view you are absolutely correct, but if you pull up to an intersection in a red Mustang GT convertable or a silver Audi A4, people are going to notice the Mustang. Sure the Ford's plastics will look like it's made from a 1000 melted G.I. Joes, but who notices a silver A4?
Personally, I'm willing to trade a few hundred dollars in the interior for a vehicle that looks sexy and has the performance to back it up.
I'm secure enough where I can appreciate a car for what it does for me, and not worry about if other people will approve. If I buy an expensive car, it'll be because it's fun for me to drive, not to make the neighbors (or, better yet, random people on the street I don't even know) go "oooh."
And if the cop notices the red Mustang GT instead of my silver A4, all the better for me ;)
