Grand Am History Compilation

I'm working on a project for the website, and I am enlisting the help of our membership. I would like to compile photographs of each model year Grand Am from 1973 to 2005. What I am looking for is decent quality photos of stock (Or near stock) Grand Ams of every trim level for every year. The 4th and 5th Generation cars shouldn't be a problem, but I'd appreciate pics of those too. So please, if you want to be part of our Grand Am History webpage, please post a photo of your car in this thread.


Generation 1: 1973 - 1975
Generation 2: 1978 - 1980
Generation 3: 1985 - 1991
Generation 4: 1992 - 1998
Generation 5: 1999 - 2005


For the pics, we would like high-res (800pixels+) unedited photos which clearly show the car's distinctive features. The car should stand out in the photo, the background should not be too cluttered.

If you wish, please include your name, email address and homepage so credit can be directed back to you. Oh, and don't forget to include the year and trim level with your photo!

I will be accepting duplicates as well. Just because someone already posted your year/trim level doesn't mean you can't post your pic. I will be searching through and using the best photographs.

Hmmm, time to put the scanner to work. I have several examples of stock cars of all trim levels from the full-color dealer sales brochures from 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994. Some are duplicate pics tho... I noticed the 2-page red GT in the 94 brochure is the same as 93 but a spoiler was photoshopped/airbrushed in.

This is a 1991 grand am LE 4 door. Not many people knew that the LE did come with a full appearance package. This particular model had cruise control, power windows and locks, alloy wheels , full gauge cluster with tach ,premium sound system,systems monitor,air conditioning and a 60/40 rear seat. I believe some of the cars did have a working moon roof too. They also had two options with the engine either being the 2.3 quad 4 or the 2.5 iron duke. It also had the option of a 5 spd tranny or the automatic, both transmissions came with either the quad 4 or the iron duke.


I also did some other research and this is what I came up with this: The grand am also came in a regular base line 4 door sedan,base line two door, two door SE,two door LE or 4 door LE or SE.

Options varied from car to car and what the owners then wanted on their new car.

Don't fret use IRFANVIEW, its a free download and extremely easy to install and use without sacrificing picture quality. Once installed you simply open the picture you want to resize, click on "Image" and then "Resize/Resample" I find 1024 x 768 pixels is a good size that will reduce your picture sufficiently for upload to GAOC. I actually learned about it on this site, just passing it on.

Finally got some scanning done. Only the 92 & 93 brochures so far... I was surprised how much tweaking and retouching they required even though I the photos looked like they were in good shape.

Now don't expect phenominal quality, especially since many of the scans came from photos that were only 3-4 inches wide and my scanner can go to a DPI level that actually revealed individual print colors.

I remember finally figuring out how to get a couple pics to post last year, but I've given up trying to remember how I did it.; lol.... I think I used Irfanview but I'm not sure.

I've been trying to resize this pic for over two hours now; not sure if this will show up.... If it does, this is my 2000 GT1 and it is 100% Pontiac stock. The only alteration I did was to get rid of that stupid alc light sensor, and I also installed a toggle switch in my glovebox for my drl's so I can easily turn them back on if needed.
I also replaced my headlight housings with new G.M. ones after this pic was taken. I almost bought clear reflector headlights but they're not legal here in this state (must be amber reflector) (strict enforcement lately too).

Thanks very much, Bill. I had just got done waxing it with some Meguiar's NXT Tech wax. man, that stuff is fantastic ! My nephew is a professional car detailer, and he clay barred the car for me when I first bought it. Then he buffed it all up with that Meguiar's....came out really nice.
I actually lucked out with this car because it was owned by a 70 'ish year old guy who owns about 15 NAPA stores, so I was very pleased to see this car in pristene condition. That's why I plan on keeping it all stock.. plus, I'm too old for all those mods, lol !!! That's for the younger generation now...

I forgot to mention..... I was having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to resize a pic to show here. One of my problems was that I somehow had the checkbox "save as" checked to "bit"; instead of "jpeg". So that was one of my problems; I couldn't upload a "bitmap" thing, lol... Thought I'd mention that just in case anyone else might need to know that too.

Good Lord.... My lil ole' GT1 (no mods; all Pontiac stock) looks naked compared to some of these nice looking modded ones.
But..... I more than made up for it with my Trans Am and Firebird Formula 400 back in the 70's; those were my hey-days of blowin' doughnuts and doing bleach burnouts.
