I found a 97' ga gt coupe at a dealer with 120,000 miles on it and has some scuffs and scratches on it along with a cracked windshield. The dealer is asking $3900 for it ,but do you think i could get them down to $3300 otd? I really want the car,b ut i don't think it's worth their asking price. Thanx!

Tell them you will pay $3900 if they fix the windshield.

A friend of mine just bought a 1995 Grand Am GT from the dealer......it was a beauty. Solid black, tinted windows, beautiful interior, custom wheels.....94,000 miles and it went for 4200. ( they were asking 5400 )The windshield is a big expense........make em fix it first. They can do it cheap.

I woudn't pay any more than $3K for the 97 you describe.

120K mi is on the high side with 12K mi being "average" per year, the car should ideally have no more than 72 - 80K mi on it.

The windshield is going to be expensive to replace. To top it off the overall condition of the car - cracked windshield and numerous scrapes/scratches suggest that the previous owner didn't take very good care of the car.

The question you must ask yourself is how much of a gamble are you willing to take. An unrepaired windshield and abused bodywork suggest that perhaps the previous owner didn't exactly keep up with the maintenance schedule as well - i.e. how often did they really change the oil.

Also at 120K, being a 97 unless the front control arm bushings have already been replaced its almost a given that that will be a repair needed in the near future along with new front strut mounts - hell my 98 had to have all that repaired (under warranty thank God) by 40K mi. A new intake manifold gasket will also likely be on the list of items in need of repair soon.

I agree with the last person. The car has lived a less than great life. You should keep looking, unless you have money to put in it.

I've worked at a car lot before, They will go down, but they need to go a long way to make it worth it. 1,500.00 or less.

Check the black book on it. I use www.jeep.ca then go to used car appraisals. That is a Canadian site, but I am sure the US web sites have similar tools.

Well, the dealership said they will take $3400 with taxes, but i'm going to take it to my mechanic first to have it checked out.

The windhsield will run you a few hundred. I would say $3,500 and you fix the windshield. Or $3,200 I fix it. Then go to www.usedgrandamparts.com ask for sam and haev him get you a windsheild.

Well, my parents won't let me sell my car so it looks like i won't be getting it anyhow. The thing that was suspicious about the car was it didn't come with a warrenty and the dealers other used cars do.So maybe it's a good thing not buying it. Also itold my parents that since i will be keeping my car i want to be able to mod it more.
