View Full Version : Let it flow... let it flow... just not into the car

Hi there.

I recently posted about water leaking into the car and a wise GAOwner poster mention it had probably killed the air bag box under the passenger seat, as my air bag light remained on.

He was correct.

Now the garage has told me that there is 5 hours of labour required to fix the 'firewall' which is leaking. This is, looking around the forum here, a common problem.

My question is, when I poured water into the cowl with a hose, the water came running down the driver's side firewall (inside).

Is is possible that water escaping the cowl drain area (via the drain plug) drains down into the firewall area (eg. between an inner and outer firewall) or is the leak in the actual metal of the cowl drain area? What I mean is, should I be looking for a leak in an area where the water is leaving from the drain holes or should I look for leaks inside the cowl, where there may be a crack?

This firewall leakage they're referring to, I have yet to take a look at - I plan to return to the garage in a few days. Any ideas as to a way to fix this without removing the entire dash? They quoted 5 hours... which is going to hurt.

I was hoping I could tar the firewall and that would suffice.

$500 already for a new air bag device to replace the water logged one.

Thanks in advance.
