OK, winter is over (I bope) and I took the winter mats out of the car. Now there are salt stains, black areas, and mystery stuff on the carpets and mats.
Any ideas how to get them looking their best again?
Most of the carpet cleaners don't seem to work on salt!

Well, I found water is the best for salt. Just soak it down, and sop it up. As for the mystery stuff, well, maybe the kid(s) threw somthing down there...I dunno....

... I can't remember the name of the products, but, I have seen carpet cleaner that actually states it is designed for salt residue ... personally though, I have a friend who shampoos my carpets and seats every spring for $50 using 'professional' salt neutralizing fluids :)

My parents have a very nice carpet shampoo machine with lots of small attatchments. I shampoo the entire interior of my car once or twice a year. Even though I keep my car immaculate and clean, you be suprised how much dirty water still shows up after using the shampoo machine. I have detailed some of my friends vehicles before who aren't quite as picky as me, and man...I bet I can go through 3 or 4 gallons of brown water from their carpet and seats even though it looks realitively clean to begin with.
