Greetings,

Please excuse my ignorance with the mechanics of cars. I don't know nearly as much as I should, but I thought this would be a good place to start. I've recently traded a 2000 Grand Am SE for a 2003 Grand Am SE 1. So, this of course concerns the newer car.

The previous car was not a V6, so I am making a transition between the two. The most concerning thing that I have is that occasionally, when I take my foot off the pedal, the engine will idle down, than slightly up and than down again. Its just a slight change in RPM, but noticeable nonetheless. Another example is in the morning when it is warming up and I give it a little gas. It will idle up but not immediately drop down after I let my foot off the pedal. There actually was a recall on the gas pedal getting stuck down, but that should have been taken care of. I wasn't sure if this could be related to that or not. Is this just something that I need to get used to with the higher power engine?

Additionally, in the mornings (whether the temperature is warm or not) the care will idle around 1500 RPM when first starting up. Is this normal or is it too high for warm weather conditions?

And the final thing is a bit of a rough idle, but I have found that leaks in the vacuum hoses can often cause that. So, I'd appreciate any input that anyone might be able to provide. If there is anything else that needs to be told, please let me know and I will try to explain it further. Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.

-Tim

Not neccesarily. Take it to the deal in regards to that sticky gas pedal recall. I have an 03 SE and i just had the recall done to it this fall. I just had my aunt (works for GM) switch the car into my name after I bought it used, and i recieved it in the mail. So it'd be best to have the dealer check it out. all a mechanic has to do is look at the trottle under the hood, watch you put the gas to the floor and they'll either replace the gas pedal, the gas and brake pedal, or the ENTIRE assembly including cables. I had to have the entire thing replaced.

^Thanks for the response. I was aware of the recall before I purchased the vehicle, and the dealer I was buying from had it inspected and it did indeed have something done to it. Actually, I've noticed on the gas pedal that there is actually a paper with the GM logo and some kind of scan code.

But with that said, I always worry that things won't get done right. If I take it back to a Pontiac dealer, will they again look at it or would they charge? I ask because if they will charge, I'll have to get in touch with whom I purchased the car from and have them set something up. If not, I can just take it to the Pontiac dealer here in the city in which I live.

And if not having to do with this brake pedal, any clue what else it might be? Thanks again for your help! :)

well I just relized I've never seen you post here.. so :welcome:

and just bring it to the dealership, and go to the service counter and ask if the recall (#04092 - Accelerator Pedal Sticking) has been done to it yet. Bring you're VIN number aswell. They may be able to check if it has been done by the VIN. :) Good luck

I haven't called the Pontiac Dealer (yet) but did receive a bit of additional information. Someone mentioned that the idle is controlled by the computer and that the air control valve will change the idle slightly at times. Could this be the issue that I brought up?
