why is their alot of spiralling on the paint on that up close shot? ive always wondered why that happens...

I love the car, my one problem with it is that you did not buy the correct size tires, they are not wide enough for those rims! It looks like you've got 215 or maybe even 205mm, whereas a 225 or 235mm wide tire would look better (and perform better)

Other than that keep up the good work on the sexy GA

Nice! That's almost the same detail I did on my car on saturday. Took me about 5 hours.

Wash
Clay
Wash
Meguiars Paint Cleaner
Meguiars Scratch X where needed
Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze
Meguiars NXT Tech Wax

Gotta love a detailed black car :D
I'm going to do the same detail on my mom's red G6 on the next nice week-end.

Clay bars are abrasive, it dulls & makes fine scratches that you are seeing. You have to polish that all out before waxing for a perfect finish.

yeah, i'm not real worried right now

it's about to be painted in the next few weeks

i'm buying a porter cable buffer set too, so that'll knock out the swirls

Car looks great and I love the AED tails :) but paint them the same color of the car :)

I agree. Those tails should be the same color as the car. Other than that your personal hardwork is paying off!

You really need to hit that with a PC and at least 3 stages of of polish to get those swirls out.
I would have hit it with
Megs #83
megs #80
then a nice glaze
then a good carnuaba wax

But we already talked about that in PM lol

You have already seen this but i will show it again. If you do what i recomend you will get much better depth, shine and wetness.

i went and got some megs 82 today

gotta get my ol orbital out and try this stuff. can't wait for my PC to get here..

Oh yeah and here is a quick review of the wax i use.

http://autopia.org/reviews/censura.php?cmd=details&itemid=490

#82 might work very well for you, make sure you work it in and make sure the polish breaks down before you wipe it off.

05-05-2006, 09:06 AM
yeah, i have got to get me some of that stuff rand.

i got some race glaze..

carquest is going to stop carrying it and my dad bough about $800 worth of diff. race glaze stuff for $180. so i'm good on that

i havnt called the harley place yet for that stuff...i'm going to do that today sometime

That race glaze polish/sealent is just amazing stuff. Its so slick and gives a great 3-D depth and reflection. Then topped with the S100 is just phenomenal! The S100 gives it the wetness/liquid and shine affect.
So once your done doing all those steps you will have a paint job that has GREAT 3-D depth, shine, reflection and wetness with ZERO swirls and scratches.
If you do all this and still have swirls you might have to bump up your polishing steps and use megs #83 then megs #80 then megs #82. Its all trial and error........not to mention VERY time consumeing.

05-05-2006, 10:03 AM
yeah, i have a dark blue accord i'm doin monday morning

i hope this #82 will work well on that too. its got a LOT of swirls so i might have to go get some 80 and 83 for that one

coupe
05-05-2006, 10:14 AM
Yup it all comes down to how bad the paint is. Thats what determines what polishes will work.
#83 will take out HEAVY swirls and scratches but will leave a "haze".
#80 will take out the "haze".
#82 will take out the fine swirls and scratches.
Then all ya gotta do is "seal" it in with a good quality sealant/glaze.
Then a layer of a good wax. I preffer S100 on dark colored cars and NXT paste wax for light colored cars.

wBkM85
05-05-2006, 10:33 AM
yeah, i think im gonna have to go pick up some 83 and 80

its that dark dark blue color, and though it was kinda dirty when i looked at it yesterday, the swirls stand out more than the paint color

coupe
05-05-2006, 10:39 AM
In that case i recomend the full polish steps #83-#80-#82. It sucks i know but its the only way to get a pro detail. Also dont forget to use the right pads.

I also forgot, you can layer race glaze as many times as you want, more the better! I did 5 then topped with S100. 1 week later i applied another coat of S100.

how can i tell when it breaks down all the way, i know theres a link i had where it tells you, but i cant seem to find it

car looks really good.. you're going to be painting it too? the paint seems fine to me.. you should see my car, one reason why I so dislike black, swirls are a pain to keep minimal, and my car wasn't really taken care of, so waxing it only does so much for so long.. :(

Thats becuase wax wont remove/heal swirls or scratches. At best wax "might" hide a few small ones.
Go to autopia.org and do some reading.

i was thinking, i want to get GT lenses and use that over my AED tails. maybe that would look cool. now i want to know i should clear it or leave it the red

coupe
05-10-2006, 07:49 AM
That would not look cool imo.

wBkM85
05-10-2006, 07:58 AM
yeah, you would have a big gap right on the side. the aed tails are a little longer, hence why you have to get the lenses from them.

i might end up painting them when i paint my car, i still havent decided yet, i kinda like them black but they would look good red also.

rand, thanks for all of your help. my car now is SLICK. i am going to go back over it in a few weeks with all of my new products and use my PC on it and see how much better the paint will look. its slick now, but i can't wait to do it again in a few weeks once this stuff wears off.

coupe
05-10-2006, 08:07 AM
As long as you use a good carnauba every few weeks your polishes will never wear off. It only gets better!!
