Car: 2000 GA SE2 w/ 3400 v6

On my way home on the freeway tonight, I punched my gas and felt the engine rev up, then jolt as if I hit the limiter, but I was only going about 70 mph. I exited the freeway and my engine shut off on the exit ramp. It started again with no problem, but now it idle's very roughly, then shuts off after a couple of seconds.

If I start the engine then give it more throttle, it will stay on. However the exhaust smells funny, and as soon as I take my foot off the pedal it idles rough for a moment then shuts off.

I should also note that my SES (service engine soon) stays on now.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or does anyone know what causes this? If no one knows, I'll try to get it up the street to Murray's or AutoZone and have them use the handheld computer to get the SES code.

o2 sensor or throttle position sensor I'd figure, but yes, get the codes read.. its the surest way to tell instead of guessing and throwing money at it:)

Based on when/how it started. My guess would be TPS. But get the codes read to be sure.

thanks for your responses guys.

i went and got a code scan this morning. ended up with 'low maf input' or something like that.

i got a used maf from the junkyard for 30 bucks and installed it in place of the old. my car seems to be fine now.

Hey my 200 gt did that as well but it was the fuel pump. Just FYI it was a $500 job.
