Hey guys, got a couple questions on some rust damage that my car has and want to get fixed before they get worse.

I only have a picture of one side, but the other side is almost exactly the same.. here is the picture.

I know it's kind of hard to see, but it's a rust hole, about 4 inches big on my quarter panel above the wheel well. You can see the backside of the inner sheetmetal through it. The body shop wants 300 bucks to fix it, so i am trying to find an inexpensive way to do it.

I was thinking of using some of that inflatable foam to fill in the hole, and than using bondo body filler and tigers hair to patch in the gap that's left (using the foam for rear support), and than painting over it, but I cannot seem to get the bondo to apply right. Once I get the bondo on and it's dry, I sand it down smooth but you can STILL feel roughness all the way around the repair area where the bondo is higher than the sheet metal. If I sand it down further than where it's at, it goes back down to bare metal and you can see the tigers hair.

Please offer me some advice.

i am by no means a body expert

i have recently done this on mine

i have a similiar problem on only 1 on the rear wheel whells the rest was just suface rust

when applying the bondo you have to go larger than the actual patch itself so you can "feather" it out

its kinda like drywall and plaster

you wanna go a few inches larger than the actual patch
also you may need to sand down some of the tigers hair

good luck with that
