Can I use a ecm from a 96 GA on a 95? I would just assume ebay a 96 ecm rather then pay to get my codes read for 45$. Call me cheap but I can get an obd2 scanner for cheap or have autozone read it for nothing. My GA is a 95 se V-6 with 33k ish on the clock and im only getting around 200 miles per tank driving like a granny. CE light is on and limping. Thanks for help.

No. Your 95 could be OBD 1.5 or 2.0 (it changed mid-year). Even if it was 2.0, the 96+ has BCM functions that the 95 lacks.
Additionally, most codes are caused by engine operating out of parameters or bad sensors. Even if a PCM swap was that easy, I bet that SES would show right back up.

Well thats to bad,I was hoping it would be just that easy. Darn obd 1.5. Thanks for your info, got any clues were to get a scanner at a decent price for the gm obd 1.5? Im going to have this car for a long time |I hope and I hate paying ppl to work on my cars. Autocheckup is out of refurbs. Thanks again.

Is there anyway to check if its obd 1.5 or 2? Like by vin or something?

Easiest way to check on the 95 3100 is the presence of a Mass-air flow sensor. If there's a MAF sensor between the throttle body and the airbox, it's OBDII. If it lacks a MAF, then OBD 1.5.
