When going down the road with the a/c on, the a/c turns itself off(sometimes when you hit a bump) the blower still blows, but the light on the a/c button goes out and you usually have to press it several times to get it to come back on. Sometimes it goes off while stiing still. I have already replaced the climate control pannel, so I know that is not the problem. It has a vacuum harness that plugs into the back of it. Could there be a vacuum leak?

The AC will shut itself off if the pressure in the system is too low (from a refrigerant leak).
If the pressure in your system is just BARELY adequate, then hitting the bump may decrease the pressure at the sensor just enough for it to register 'low' and cause it to shut-off.

Just a thought.

PS: Or maybe the wires/sconnector to the sensor are loose:
Open hood: It's right in front of your left knuckles, just behind the radiator (at least on the '96; *prolly* on the '00).

It does need a charge, but it isnt that bad. It takes a little longer to cool down, but like I said, it isnt that bad. I doubt it has a leak.

I need to fix the one on our 97 malibu again. I have to do the pencil trick about once about every 2 to 3 mouths. I don't think your car need a recharge. Our 97 blow just like new, except the for the flashing a/c light. I but the light starts flickering when you put it on setting 3 or more.
