Ok, for a long time now I have had an issue which I was told is no Third Gear. The major symptom of this would be on a hard acceleration past 80 MPH. The car would redline at about 80 unless if I had been accelerating anything higher then normal...

Time passes, car sits for a while, wife takes it out for a couple weeks and brings it home one night with the SES light lit. I run the code and it comes back as something like "Solenoid B Stuck" after doing a little research I found a bunch of sites that said to clear the code and it should go away...

Cleared the code and drove for a few weeks with no issues and the light did not come back on. Then I started my trip to Canada and about 80 miles in I was comming to a stop behind cars when I noticed that I was not able to accelerate. The engine would rev, but no movement. So I coasted the car to a stop and tried D, 1st, 2nd, R... etc with no change. No noticeable noise to indicate the car was shifting and no movement.

1997 Grand Am (2.4 LD9 Engine, Automatic)
165K Miles

Help.... anyone....

Any SES light?
ABS light?

Check the battery and cables:
First gear isn't hydraulic, it's operated by an electric solenoid.
If the elctricity isn't good and strong, then the engine just spins like a manual with a dead clutch.
Happened to me, so give it a try.

Good luck.

No ABS/SES

I have been having some electrical issues (Needed to jump a few times). I d/c all my extra electronics and checked the Battery connections, seemed ok.

I just tried again and when I shift in R it seems to do something, minute shift in the way the car is sitting and it will not roll down a hill forward, but it will not move either.
