well my auto shop at school had a Red 96 3100 2 door SE, pull in the other day. This car was quite a piece of work... It was filthy, the inside was dusty and dirty and filled with ciggarette ashes.

I worked on it myself, i did a tranny fluid and filter change, this stuff was gross. Almost brown and it was dank...With 127,xxx on the odo, the fluid had never been changed.

New set a spark plugs, of course the bozo bought bouch instead of AC's, the original AC's were still in at 127,000

The back row of plugs were a BITCH to get to, my god... I could barely get my hand back there. I changed the plugs on my 3300 and they were a heck of a lot easier...

When i had to start the thing up it took a few cranks before it turned over, mine starts up right away. And compared to my 3300 this 3100 sounded WIMPY!!!

Oh and the motor mounts and front discs were shot, the engine shakes bad, and when you put it tin gear the thing makes alot of noise. The front discs have some DEEP grooves, glad we didnt have to change them out......

Just thought i would post my somewhat traumatic experience, oh yeah and the interior was smaller than mine, was there a difference in size between the 92-95 and 96-98 bodies??? Was it the same platform??? Thanks for leting me rant on an on...:D

92-95 and 96-98 were the same platform yes, but then again technically speaking so are 99+ cars--all of them are N-bodies.

But the platform didn't really change in 96 like it did in 99 (or 97 actually if you count the Malibu on the new N-platform before the other cars...)

The 92-95 cars are pretty much identical underneath to the 96-98 cars, particularly in comparison with the 95 when the suspension was revised. The interior is completely different however, as are most major exterior body panels, fascias, as well as electronics, wiring, etc. In terms of interior size however, the cars are identical; so any differences you're perceiving are either there because of the different interior parts or just your imagination. If you strip the interiors of both cars you'd see they are 100% identical.

It's disappointing to hear someone had their car in such bad condition though :(
