Anyone here know about how much a junkyard would sell a grand am in pieces for?

I am thinking, since I can't come up with 10,000 for a 2000+ grand am, I could buy one at the junk yard for really cheap, and slowly buy parts for it to go in it, until it's restored. Would this end up costing more than 10,000, or more trouble than it's worth?

If anyone here has any suggestions, please let me know.

Don't do it, check the classifieds or a dealership for an older model if you have to. If you get something from a junkyard there's a good reason its there and its probably been picked over stem to stern by other people looking for parts to fix up theirs. You would end up spending way more than you bargained for and wouldn't be able to get it off your hands later if you gave up on it without taking a loss.

well, I did look in the classifieds, everybody is looking for like7-10,000 for them. If I get it at a junk yard, I can slowly rebuild it without spending alot of money at once to get it going.

Most of the time you can't get a title for a junkyard car. If you can, it usually requires all types of paperwork, roadworthyness inspections, etc... it will vary from state to state.

Parts will often cost more than the car itself. Wrecked cars are just not the same after collision repair. On top of that, any car that has a remote chance of being salvaged will be sold off as a "rebuildable" or for the half that isn't damaged... what's in the yards are fairly trashed well beyond repair. In other words, it's just a bad idea.

And $10,000? Should be about half that for an older used 99+ GA.

You should be able to pick up a used 2000 Grand Am SE for around $5000 with a clear title. $10,000 would get you an '03 or '04.

looking for 2000 or newer. I like the style on the newer ones. I was also debating on getting the body from a 2000+ gt and rigging it to fit on my 92 ga :D

As urweak posted, the 5th generation Grand Am started in 1999, and continued to 2005.
