Don't have to wait, but a fall meet on PEI has been discussed several times. If you want to do one elsewhere sooner, that's fine by me. :)

... if we are going to do something in PEI, I would prefer before fall as the last time we were there in the fall, there asn't a whole bunch to do IMO and it was kind of cold :(

Good point Kelly, but on the other hand it was REALLY late in the fall when we did that one. Plus if it is out of season things are cheeper.
Edit. I just check we had in Oct 18-19. Was kinda late that time.

Trina starts a new job next week, so I will wait to see what her hours are before I post a prefered date.... but as long as it is not the 22-23-24 of September I will probally be ok with it...

OK guys, let's start off by posting what dates you CAN'T make it. I think just about any weekend is good with me, and we have the Sept dates that Dan mentioned. Probably better to narrow dates down this way. :)

good call.... and the long weekend as well... my parent are coming to visit that weekend, and its our 2 year anniversary (Trina & I)... so, my dates and cat do are Sept 2, 3, 4 & 22, 23, 24

It's difficult to nail down any dates, as my job locations and dates can be crazy at best. I think it's safe to assume that I will be free for most weekends.
Actualy...The weekend of Sept 16 is my Birthday, so I know I'm free that weekend.
PS. As I've mentioned before. Don't expect much out of my car in the looks department. It's a daily driver, and I'm not any where near as dedicated to it as most of you guys.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for, Ben? The last PEI meet we rented cabins, and I think that worked out well, except for the collapsable chair. ;)

OK, if those dates are good, it's time to decide what kind of accomodations. For previous PEI meets we have doen the hotel/motel thing, we've campted, and we've rented cabins. What would everyone like to do this year?

Gimli

I'd rather not do the camping thing, considering I'll be flying in I'm not too exited about carrying a bunch of camping gear around. I wouldn't mind sharing rooms or suites (or cabins) somewhere close, sort-of like what we do for Albany.
How far is Charlottetoen from your place Shawn?
sunrunner_pei
08-16-2006, 07:52 AM
Ben, everything on PEI is close. My hose is 30 minutes (50KM) from the airport. My mom's house is literally a 2 minute drive to the airport, your plane will fly directly over her roof, and probably rattle her dishes.
I'd be up for the cabins again. I can understand Ben's reluctance to camp, and Kelly probably wouldn't want to either. :)
Gimli
08-16-2006, 09:55 AM
Kelly and I can rent a cabin and you guys camp on the front lawn, how does that sound?
Oh and Shawn, 30 minutes is pretty far after an extended game of drunk Monopoly... ask Beth!

Ben, there are literally dozens of cottages to choose from. I can make some calls to get good rates again if people are interested. :)
TheTrader
08-16-2006, 11:18 AM
depending on the rate, I may be interested in getting a room in a cottage for Trina & I... Albany has left me a bit tapped out :P but it was soooooo worth it!! actually... the expenses were not as bad as I thought... I spent only 160 bucks CAD on gas for the trip.. I am still running half a tank of Calis Maine gas in it!!
if you could Shawn, check out some cottage rates for us.. I think a cottage setting would kick-ass.... and ask about camping in the same place you find the cottages... cause Trina & I like cheap, and we dont mind tenting!!
JMILLS
08-16-2006, 08:41 PM
Please tell me that was supposed to be 160 CAD. Otherwise that is a hell of a lot of gas. I'm all for splitting a cabin with someone if I can make it. I forgot to check my work schedule today.

... I'd love to go fellas but I can't go the first (2nd-3rd) or the second weekend (9th-10th) as to be honest, I simply cannot afford it being it is so close to Albany ... that, and I may not be back in time from NFLD taking Krysi to University ... the ONLY way it would work for me would be later in the month or October ... so far, I have read, somewhere here that the 3rd and 4th weekends are no good for other so that almost kills September ... guess I'll probably have to stay home :tears: unless we can decide on some other dates.

Negative for me on the weekend of the 8th. There are other people from our company on vaction the week before and monday following wo I wouldn't be able to get any time off. Also there is a fire muster in our area that weekend that I should attend. But do not change plans on my account, my time is pretty hectic this time of year. That and my funds are a little strapped getting ready for winter.
As for the 30th, I am scheduled to be oncall that weekend, but may be able to switch things around if things were set in stone soon.

Same here. Like I said earlier if we can't get a cottage we could always rent a large suite in a hotel, once the tourist season is over that shouldn't be too expensive.

Alright! The date is set! October 21 - 22, on PEI. Sorry for the delay, but we're trying to get this on a date where most people can make it.
I think the plan was to try for cabins again, I need a total of who wants cabins so I can know how many we need to book. Availability shouldn't be too much of an issue, but many cabins will be closed for the season by then.

They do! It's called "you rent a minivan and split the cost of both the minivan and the toll 7-ways" :D

I like the "Swept Away Cottages"
Executive 3 bedroom
Cottages 5 & 6
(Max. 8 guests) $149/night
I wouldnt mind splitting one of those up with a few people, would be an awesome setup for drinking & monopoly playing!!

The Swept Away cottages are by far the nicest, and probably the most expensive. If people wanted to share the costs of 1 or 2 cottages, that'd be cool! We stayed at 'Dreams to Sea' last time. :)

See, this is what happens when you dissapear for a month.
The plan was to try to do this meet on the cheap. Most of us are broke. Anyways, the cottages posted in this thread sleep 8 people for $150/night. We were thinking about stuffing as many into a cabin as possible before renting a second one. Check back a few pages for the pics of the cottages and the discussion on this. :)

09-21-2006, 08:15 AM
Oh :( ... I can understand "broke" (Krysi is in University, remember  :D) ... sorry fellas, this type of accommodation sharing doesn't really interest either Paula or myself (totally my fault and has nothing to do with anyone attending but rather, a "personal preference") ... anyway, unless there "individual" rooms or smaller cottages available at the same place, I'll probably "pass" on the whole meet as like I mentioned, I am not overly interested in doing the whole "everyone in a single cottage and drinking" thing ... I apologize for raining on the parade and for possibly encouraging you to change the date in the beginning so I could attend but honestly, I did not know this was the plan.

Well.... I hate to do this, but I actually have to call it off too.... Trina & I just signed the lease on a new Apartment that will cost significantly more then where we are at, and I need to save the money.
We did this for safety reasons & also for the extra space & newness factor... one of our neighbours was held up at gun point about 2 weeks ago... I was here, in the hall when it happened... I saw the gun, I witnessed the fight, and had to give a police statement and the whole works.... that night I bought a baseball bat & 3 extra door locks.... anyway... that, on top of the hall way allways stinking like weed, the muddy parking lot, single washer & dryer for the whole building, WWII era building age... etc...
the new place is a 2 bedroom, with storage, a dishwasher, nice patio, tile & laminate floor, the whole works.... and the best part... a awesome security setup... camers on all the doors & the laundry room, that you can see on the TV :)
anyway... looks like this meet is going down the tubes pretty quick... :( sorry guys, I hate to do it, but I just cant spare the $$ for it.

No pics, but it happened. :) Let's just say we had a good time and even better food. Karen, Evan and I picked Ben up from the airport on Friday evening. Took a drive around Charlottetown, then at supper at Mike's. Yummy. Ben stayed the night at our place, then we waited for Kelly & Paula to arrive on Saturday morning. We went into Summerside for a quick lunch at Wendy's, then over to Canadian Tire to order some winter tires for our Vibe.
After that, and after my Mom drive up to pick up Evan, we were off to the cottage in Cavendish, with a stop at the grocery and candy stores on the way. We got settled in to the cottage, and made our supper reservation.
At 6:30, we met my sister at Huinter's Ale House for supper. The food was amazing. Well, at least the portions were. We started off with a huge munchie platter. Kelly had the triple bacon burger. Karen had a chicken burger. Jillian had a pile of nachos. I had ribs & chicken. Not sure what Paula got, but Ben's mean was the highlight. A 24 oz steak. And I swear their scales were off, because it was the biggest steak I've seen in my entire life! Not to mention the huge beers. "Hey, I ordered a large"
From there we dropped my sister off at her apartment and continued back to the cottages. With our bellies full, we drank and ate some more while watching a bunch of movies. I funally went to bed at around 2:00am.
Woke up Sunday morning, and Karen cooked us breakfast. Bacon, eggs, toast, and home fries. Not too bad. We packed up our stuff, and Kelly & Paula headed for home. I decided to take Ben on a little tour, so off to Borden we went to take a look at the Confederation Bridge. A quick stop at my place, then it was off to Charlottetown again. A little tour around the city, then off to Pat & Willy's for a mexican supper. Karen had another chicken burger. I had chicken & bacon quasidillas. And ben had pulled pork fajitas. Oh, and nacho dip to start.
After supper, we dropped Ben off at the airport and went to my Mom's to pick up Evan. Drove home, and got some much needed sleep.
I think that about sums it up. :)
