Up until last week I'd never been in a Pontiac Pursuit--a friend of mine has had one for a while but it was the first time I'd been in it.
Anyway these are simply passenger's impressions (as I didn't drive the car) and it was a fairly base model car (his has steel wheels with covers, for example). Why it even has steel wheels on the base model is beyond me, they could have at least put a small alloy on there.
The first thing I think I noticed was the inside door handles. As soon as I saw these tiny, chromed, handles I thought "what am I, in a Toyota?" LOL.
Overall I did not like the interior at all. The dash gauges are nice and they have the Pontiac red illumination but then you look at the factory head unit and it has green (Chevy/every-other-car) type illumination. It looks so out of place! (Reminds me of the electronic climate control in 1997 GPs which they quickly switched over to red for 1998 GPs 'cause ppl complained.)
I wonder if the green illumination on the stereo is because they simply use the Cobalt unit and since the Pursuit (G5) isn't in the US yet they didn't bother to use a Pontiac-specific HU? The stereo itself was nothing special, but that isn't any big deal as pretty no factory stereo ever is.
Another thing I noticed pretty quickly--there's no centre armrest on this car! It's an option!!! An option for the centre armrest/storage area? Pretty ridiculous. And it was an option my friend's car didn't have. I was like "how do you drive without an armrest?" LOL.
Anyway everything seemed pretty square and generic in the interior, like it had no character :( I honestly thought I was sitting in a Corolla or something, LOL. Did they design it like this on purpose? :???: I mean you look at the G6 interior and it's completely different and seems very much a Pontiac to me.
The rear has drum brakes (4 discs are available on the GT) which I thought was just as dumb as the steel wheels for this day and age. ABS optional is another stupid thing (but GM has been doing this since 2002 now I believe); again, my friend's car was not equipped.
The exterior styling is fine, and I do think they did a very nice job with the Pursuit GT (really like the stock wheels on that); but the interior? They've got to be kidding!
Not that I'm in the market anyway, but after sitting in the car for perhaps an hour total, I would not buy a Pursuit. Way too bland/boring inside for me.
