Using the parking brake is the only way to prevent it from seizing up. It is good practise to set the parking brake each time you put the car in 'park', even with an automatic transmission. As well, on an incline, setting the parking brake before putting the car in 'park' will also ease the strain on the parking pawl in the transmission, making it easier to get back out of park.

Welcome to the GAOC!

I knew about putting it on while on an incline, but never heard of applying it while on a flat surface. :)

^ Alot of people use there ebrake every time they park. Like Shawn said there are more bennifits to using your ebrake then not using it.

clean car.

i heard that if you use your ebrake and it freezes out the ebrake will not disengage. it doesnt snow here, so i wouldnt know if thats true or not. i use my ebrake everytime i park it.

Never heard of that happening, Dave, and it gets pretty damn cold here.

Welcome!

Make sure you keep that black looking shiny; too many black Grand Am's lose that pretty black sparkle.

But an interesting note: you said you have an 05, yet your Grand Am is an SE....I had heard that they had made a few SEs for business fleets and etc, but I've never seen any...anyone have any info?

I was always told they only made GT's for 2005?

A 'mod' is short for 'modification'. :) So rims and a new front bumper would be mods.

Just curious though, what bumper are you planning on?

SE/GT refer to the various trim levels. For 2005, the SE models (Which yours is) were only available as FLEET sales. Usually rental cars, company vehicles, etc. We have a couple other 2005 SE owners here. The 2005 GT was the only Grand Am offered to the general public, and was the last model year for the Grand Am, which was redesigned and renamed the G6 in 2005.

But I thought the 2005 SE's only had the 2.2L Eco in them, not the 3400????

Hmmm, that's a good question. I wasn't aware that they only had one engine over the other.

2005 GA Fleet Brochure (http://www.gmfleet.com/gmfleetjsp/us/acquiring/vehicinfo/summaries/2005/2005PontGrandAm.pdf)

I own a silver 05 SE. The only difference I've seen between various 05 SEs I test drove was some didn't have a spoiler (mine doesn't). They all had the 3400.

Nice looking car, BTW. I actually prefer the lines of the SE over the 05 GTs...SE looks alot "cleaner".

The interiors are rather bland, however. First thing I did was change the HU, more to add some colour to the dash than to improve the sound. New speakers and an amp naturally followed. I used some "chrome" paint on the vent rings, and the shifter ring, and installed a steering wheel inlay from Grafxwerks.

The chrome paint actually matches the silver exterior of my car quite well, so I'm not too disapointed that it's not actually very "chrome-like".

Next project is to dye the door panel inserts.

I have no clue but the one on there now looks bad. I really just want my car to go faster. It takes like 13 secs to get to 60mph.
That is just not fast enough. Well im going to my friends and taken more pics. But before i mod anything im going to get new rims.

If you want the car to go faster, the front bumper probably isn't the best place to start.

Anyway, as far as perfomance goes. You should look into getting a cold air intake. It replaces your restrictive stock air tubing and filter with a much better setup where the filter is actually shaped like a cone and mounted in the front left fender of the car. The reason for this is the air in the fender-well is colder than the air in the engine bay where the stock setup is located. These cost less than $200 bucks and will give you a slight performance gain

Right lol i will do that. I have a question dose a/c kill your gay mileage? That is what my friend sais.

only if you use it... it does decrease it noticeably, but doesn't kill it. there is a lot of car info on here, just start reading posts :D you sort of remind me of myself a few years ago, only with a much cooler first car.

I am also a silver '05 owner. I haven't done much to it yet, but plan on doing a little at a time while I can afford it. Not to sound cheap, but changing the wheel covers did wonders. I spent $40 online for 4 silver & charcoal looking wheel covers - definately give the outside a better look, albeit not like new rims would, but still..anything to get rid of those factory covers.

I put in an mp3 player, and bought some speakers - started to look around to see how difficult this would be. I started on the driver door..and with past experience on breaking door clips, I stopped until I did a little more research into the best procedure to do so.

Any suggestions? I bought from Crutchfield..and as they are always great with instructions, etc. , they could not provide any on the '05. That already got me into trouble once with the mp3 player when i clipped the factory harness (what a mess - yes, i'm a moron with car stuff), so I figured I'd try to get any feedback from anyone willing to help me out.

2 - 4" x 6" 's for the front
2 - 6" x 9" 's for the back (Crutchfield INSISTS they will fit - I'm assuming with the appropriate modification)

Great pics, btw - with I would have resisted my impulse buy on silver and waited out for an available black...but as already said - not the most readily available model.

Thanks again, and glad I found this site - shout out to all the old school '88 Grand Am owners - sold it in high school to a kid for $750 - 150K + miles...he drove it well past 250.

Hmm I dunno... how much gay mileage do you and your friend get?

Haha just kidding man, car looks awesome. Wish I had something that nice when I was 16. Don't hesitate to ask any questions here, if you want to learn about cars, and GA's in particular, you've come to the right place. Most people here are very helpful.

Nice car! 1234342387 times better than my Bronco II I had for my first vehicle. Unfair, very unfair. Good luck with your future mods!
