Hey all,
I've seen a lot of talk about how a lot of parts are interchangeable between the Z24 Cav's and the 2.4L GA's, and wondered if turbo kits such as the ones on JTuners.com would work on same engine GA's?
I'd imagine a different downpipe would need to be used (possibly), but by the looks of it, the engine bay looks to be very very similar, and it makes me wonder if this isn't a possiblity. Then again, as they say, looks can be decieving, and thats why I'm asking some of you more knowledgeable guys.
BTW mine is a 97 GAGT, 2.4L obviously.
Thanks.

The 92-98 N-body steering rack is an issue. It is oriented differently than the J-body one, so the turbo manifolds for the J-body's cannot be used on the 96-98 GA. (Not sure about 99+, little more room there)
To date, I've only seen custom manifolds used for LD2 powered pre-99 GA's.

the turbo manifolds wouldnt work b/c of clearance. Same reason you cant put a header from a 96-98 jbody on a 96-98 nbody

Is the mainifold the only forseable problem though? If a custom manifold were to be made, would the rest work?

Doubtful... most 92-98 turbo setups orient the turbo itself upward instead... which means all the piping needs to be modified too.

Oh well, worth a shot.
Different question here (as I don't want to make a thread for each new Q), how do you think the exhaust would sound on my 97GT if I were to have the pipes from the cat back redone at 2.5", and ran a dual exit without the mufflers? I know for SRT-4's, it sounds absolutely lovely, but these cars don't quite have so much pent up anger as those cars do, so to speak, heh.

with no muffler, it would sound like shit.

Loud and horrible... that's a bad idea. The 2.4 needs a muffler. Don't forget, the turbo on the SRT-4 will quiet and mellow the exhaust sound.

Any personal recommendation for an agressive sounding exhaust then? I read through the exhaust FAQ and such, and the flowmaster 80's seemed to fit that bill nicely, but would it work for my model year?
I do realize mufflers are mostly universal, but it seemed as though it was more for the 99+ years.

i've got a 98 with just 2.25" cat back and the camaro-style dynomax muffler transversely mounted so it's just one muffler. it sounds awesome and gave a little bit of power.

It's easier to fit dual non-tranverse mount mufflers on the pre-99 GT.
With larger diameter pipe, most mufflers will sound pretty aggressive on a 2.4. I personally prefer the straight-thru glass/steel filled mufflers (Borla or Dynomax). Flowmaster will work too, although I don't care for the rasp at certain RPMs it allows through.

my transversely mounted fits excellent. the guy that did all the pipes and welding was amazed with how well it fit being a custom application. and i agree, dynomax or borla sound the best.

Im changing out my FlowMaster 80 series(transversal) muffler for a straight through MagnaFlow or Borla muffler right after the cat. I can just tell the chambered muffler is holding me back some, car doesn't seem as get up and go like it did with my old setup.
