Has anyone found a clear coat that doesn't ruin this paint? So far I've been doing:
-Sand smooth with 600 wet
-Duplicolor black primer
-Sand with 1000 wet
-1 coat Chrome
-Sand with 1000 wet
-2nd coat Chrome
At this point the finish is about as chrome-like as I would expect from a paint, but if I go ahead and add a clear-coat (Dupli-Color), the color of the chrome coat completely changes to a speckled grey.
I'm happy with the chrome-ish finish, but it's not very durable by iteself.

is it still the grey when it dries?
I know when i coated some of my interior peices in clear coat it had a grey haze to it until the clearcoat dried

I didn't let it dry over a day before I started over, but it appears to be much more than just a haze--it's almost as if the pigment distribution of the paint is changed.
I'll try a piece this weekend to see if I just didn't let it dry long enough.

spray can chromes are worthless, when you clearcoat them they lose their shine, its nothing you can do.. if you want it to stay shiny you don't clear it.... but if you don't clear it, itll fade quickly and become dull anyways.

Red98grandamse is right. I used the same stuff on my vent rings. It looked great, so I clearcoated them, and now they are a dull speckly grey color.
Been drying for several months now..........nope, still grey.

Yeah I just called Dupli-Color, and they said the product isn't meant to have a clear coat over it.

make a metal duplicate and have them chrome dipped? it'll be expensive, but look hella cool.

about what i figured. The problem there is that, like i alluded to before, lack of a clearcoat on it won't keep it protected from the elements very long, so it's kinda worthless to use it. I used the same stuff on my grilles when i had the se bumpers on, so i know all about this:( Over the course of one summer i took them off and had to respray them 4 times because the paint kept flaking off and/or fading on me.
