hey...i have a ton of questions i need to ask somone. im hopping to find some1 on here that understands the electronic set up of the newer GA. instant messanger screen names would be awesome (PM them to me if u want or post them on here). but for starters. someone tell me if the throttle sensor for the diagnostics system is ensential to the car. if no then where is it. also, how does the diagnostics system recieve its info for speed. does it use the same sensor as the speedometer, does it have a seperate sensor, ect... if anyone could answer those questions and kind give me a full descriptive walkthru of how these things works where they are and if theyr esential to the car in any way other then the diagnostics system, thanks in advance.

How about you ask nicely instead of telling us? Also, I am curious as to why you want to know these things?

The TPS is required.

If you don't like the 'black box' your parents put on the car to monitor your driving habits, then save your money and buy your own car when you turn 18. You're not going to be able to defeat it without them knowing.

hahaha very nice. you caught on pretty quick.lol. well i beg to differ that the rents would ever know. i ran a 20.16 1/4 mile the other day and they have no clue. of course it was only it less then half throttle and slower then 65, but it was fun anyways. glad i have a friend that works at the local drag strip. his boss let me do that for free.:D

Dave c...i didnt mean for my "request" to come across as a demand. sry bout that. its just bad wording.

wat exactly is a TBS is that the throttle sensor? and also is the diag system integrated into the ecu or is it seperate.

thanks for the help guys

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor.........you need it and cannot get around needing it....don't try.....in fact, don't even ask about it anymore.

You keep saying Diagnostic system....WTF are you talking about??? The TPS, Speed sensors, etc., are all part of what the ECM uses to make the engine turn and the transmission shift.....without blowing up.

You're lucky you have such a nice car at 16. you should be thankful and not trying to beat on it just because you have it. Your parents (yes "parents", not "rents"...use english) put the monitor there for a reason, not just to be asses...deal with it and move on.

Well of course they didn't know, if they looked at it, all it would look like is you getting onto the highway. 20.16? Under 65? My mother drives faster than that, of course no one will know.

You've got a great first car. I'm sure that your parents bought it for you. Think about it. They bought you a very nice car. Yes, it is very nice. It's not an ugly POS that doesn't always start. It's a reliable, good looking, speedy car. I'm willing to bet they clothe you, feed you, etc. They might even possibly pay for your insurance and gas. And you want to be a dick and bypass whatever monitor they put on the car that they very nicely gave you? That's a great way to repay your parents for their hard work and sacrifice for you. They probably didn't put this monitor on your car for no reason. Don't be a dick, don't try to change it, and your parents will take it off eventually, or you can get your own car. But don't treat your parents like that. They don't deserve it.

im i the only one that thinks degrading a 16 year old is a waste of forum? kid if you want to race your stock grand am and get a speeding ticket do it,as well as a nice incline in insurance to go with it. who cares who got him the car for all we know he could be one of those ceo internent geeks that make like 2mill of off selling grape flavored oranges online. point is if the kid wants to get his car taken away let him

At first i felt that it was wrong to put such hardware in a car to monitor your kids, it shows you do not trust them, thats a bad thing for a parent to do. But now from reading your posts, you cant be trusted and now i understand why they have that in the car.

That should be installed in the car of anyone pulled over for DUI

Back on topic: I agree with Coupe completely (never thought I'd say that). That and if he is this disrespectful of his parents and this bent-set on making sure they don't know how he drives, then I'm willing to guess he already drinks and drives:roll2:

As everyone has already said, you need to show some respect to your parents. It's not a bad idea for them to monitor your driving until you realize that you are not invincible like teenagers believe.:slap: Stop trying to bypass it and appreciate what you have; I know I do.

gee wiz, what a friendly online comunity. im not gonna try to be an ass right back at u guys but for futur reference heres a thought. Dont get into talking about things when u dont know ALL the facts. truth is ive neve lied to my parents or anything like that. theyr control freaks. I dont drink. im acctually that daddy's boy that everyone makes fun of. ya no when i registered to this site i thought" hey maybe i found a place where i MIGHT be able to fit in". ya right, whos shitin who. just so ya know heres some more facts about my situation. I bought the car with money ive been saving for the past 4 years. i was aware that this car would eventually be mine. it did belong to my parents and they had our nannys(basicly a hired big sister or babysitter that lives with us) to use to take us places. when i turned 16 and got my license, we didnt need her any more so she retired. the car was now up for sale in our yard. it was NOT given to me. i had to buy it from my parents as if i were some1 elses kid. now days i have to pay for gas and insurance on what ever money i can make. by the way i dont have a job so its not very easy. i dont get to drive really all that much. my whole life ive been dieing to get loose from my parents. from the time i was 7 till now ive been the one paying for what ever i get. stuff i get from my parents on my b-day and x-mas i dont even take out of the box half the time. no matter what i do theres always strings attached. so i do my own buying with MY money. that eliminates their right to argue. some times. so now they decide to be control freaks as usual and force me to have this retarded black box in MY car that I payed for. they chew my ass off even if i slam on the brakes cuz some dipshit pulled out in front of me. ya, they took MY car away from me for a whole month because that happened. when i did that drag i mentioned earlier, it was on a legal track with people watching and ready for any disaster that could have happened. thats the only reason the guy let me do it. only because he knew all the BULLSHIT that ive had to put up with.my brother never really had to put up with this shit. and thats one thing that i dont understand. he got not one but TWO cars that he never spent a penny on. not for insurace, gas, or the acctual purcase. my little sister...well u can bet that she'll be getting a brand new off the lot her choise car. she'll never spend money on hers either. my parents are usually impressed with my driving when ever the experience it. i no im not invincible. im not a dumbass. my best friend, the only man i would ever trust my life with, was killed in an accident when he was hit by another teen driver when he reached the top of a hill. DEAD....INSTANTLY. its not easy for me to talk about this but my point is that u dont know everything thats happening. i dont know if maybe my point of view is a little off angle but i think its acctually my parents that are shitting in my face. not the other way around. In my opinion, jumping to conslusions is about the most disrespect full thing u can do to someone. like i said before im not trying to be an ass, but u can see why some of ur coments really piss me off. im not trying to rebel against my parents at all. i love my family very much. but when they start pulling shit like this and they wont listen to your argument, ud proly feel like doing something too. i really do take driving very seriously. ive never really had any problems with my driving and i plan on keeping it that way. i try to be as safe as possible but im also not afraid to have a little fun where its legal. i really dont know that u guys will have to put up with anymore post from me now. this is just point less im just wasting my usless time so the fuc k with it.

o by the way....1999grandamse, i have been beat with a belt before and it doesnt feel good at all....nor is it funny in any way

The point many are trying to make is simply not to take things for granted. Not all of us were even allowed to get a drivers license within the first year of legally being able to. Some of us did not have our own car (myself included) once we got our license... even if we had the money to buy one. Until the day you can legally own a car without parental consent, there's no changing that.

Get used to it - that's how life is. Sounds like they are trying to teach you about working, budgeting, and the value of a dollar. That's a good thing, even if you don't think so now.

They didn't have those black boxes in my day. If they had them I probably still wouldn't be allowed to drive. I don't know how I ever lived to 20 the way I drove back then.

Dude, your parents are just worried about you and scared to death to get that visit from the cops at 3:00AM to tell them that you're never coming home. Even though it doesn't sound like you give them reason to worry that's just the way it is. Just be patient and give them time to realize that you're not their baby anymore.

I know I'm dreading the day I hand keys to my kids.

Understand that the last person asking about the electronics of his car was your age, got his car from his parents who bought EVERYTHING for him, and he was disrespectful and rude and ignored all of the advice we gave him. With your first couple of posts, you sounded the same way. Search for posts by CanadAM and you may understand.

It's good to hear that you purchased that car. Congratulations on that:D Not many people at 16 can say "Yeah, I payed every penny for my awesome car." Hopefully your parents will pull back a little in a year or two and give you more freedom. Live with the little box for a while and it may happen sooner.;)

In 10 years you'll be glad they did this because you will probably be in very good financial shape with the budgeting skills they are forcing you to learn now.

Try to understand and see how your intentions are inevitably interpreted by those online who have never met you. We went on what you said, which made you sound like an inconsiderate, stupid kid. Obviously, you are not, but that didn't come through in your post.

Stick around. You'll like it here after a while, especially now that we know you're not just another CanadAM:lol: :P

BTW: I know that belts hurt. My parents used belts and wooden spoons on me way back when. I find it funny now, especially since most of the things I did were so stupid:P

lol....well heres 2 things i might add

#1 usually im the one getting beat with a belt for something some1 else did. and
#2 the budget thing....well thats not their work. i choose to buy all my own stuff. they offer me money allll the time. thats one thing i no im lucky for but i dont take advantage of it. i turn down their money and use my own so i dont have to listen to them complain when i modify stuff. for example: my computer has 8 speakers and 2 subwoofers wired to it via some simple battery powered amps i made(the subwoofer amp is run by a 12v powersupply). they told me they didnt like me doing this but since i bought the computer and the stereo all this stuff came from...they didnt attempt to stop me. cuz they knew they couldnt. my dad still manages to stop me from doing stuff to MY car ,wich im very prod of. eventually ill be able to show them the potential that they are holding back. not to brag or anything. some people hav acctually liked some of my ideas for truely custom upgrades. still havent been able to work on my custom ram air design but it'll happen some time.

i dont want to sound like a streetfire comment whore but, i dont care what your parents buy you or dont buy you and i dont care if you can wire up some subs to your genitals and play counterstrike with maximum pleasure, this thread has gone from " how can i override a black box" (which is not word for word but what was intended) to " bla bla bla kid this kid that lets all bash on some kid" " hey i may be a kid but im special becuase bla bla bla " it has nothing to do with powertrain performance anymore, i could just not read this thread but then again this thread has no purpose here. one time my parents offered me 40k to get a car but i turned it down and got a grand am becuase im noble, beat that one.

what i don't understand is the forums was built to help solve problems and offer performance advice. Why in god's name would u bash a person for asking a questiong and prevent him from going fast? Isn't that what performance is about?

btw i'm sorry your parents are phsyco. stuff like that isn't a problem in the south. Hell we race the cops :)

'Performance modification' assumes you can depress the accelerator all the way. This isn't the "parental monitoring circumvention" section. If you agree or disagree with it's purpose doesn't matter... the facts behind the futility in bypassing/defeating this device have been stated. There's really nothing more to say... :padlock:
