Hello,

Ok I know how stupid the title makes this sound lol but its not what ya think!

My tint over my rear window dot matrix is sticking like shit, and I know many others are having this problem (Its a sick world that we live in!). Anyway, I was wondering if it would be possible to mask everything but the dot matrix, prime, and paint it black....to do the same job as a decal (which cost like 25$ un-cut). And if i just left it there like that It would like ugly so id put a decal over it! Ta-dah, my mind at work. Focus would be taken away from the painted part and put onto the decal. So does anyone think that this is possible, will the paint stick? In my experience I dont see why not because with Heat Resistent Engine Enamel paint I have painted plastic, vinyl, and metal, all with no problem. As long as you prime, you're good. Anyone?

yes you can paint it....it's actually a very common practice when you cant get the tint to stick. On N-body.net there's a how to. :)

Ah damn it ! I did not even think of that, now Ive got one crappy dot matrix I wish I had done that too (along the top line of the rear windshield) oh well, but that sounds like an awesome idea, Id love pics when you are done (if they come out)

I wouldn't use primer since it can be seen from the outside. Clean the window with a good amonia free glass cleaner and then swab it down with rubbing alcohol. You could also try brush on paint.

Either way, try a small spot to see if the color matches. There are many shades of black.

:agree:
Also, scuff it down with a 3M scotch brite pad first.
Flat black will look nicer from the inside & still look glossy from the outside.

would self etching primer work too, or would that not work well on glass?

It wouldn't work too well on glass. But any primer would show since you'd be painting the inside of the glass, so you'd have to go with paint on glass.

I asked this in another tread about tint dot matrix and got nothing from it.

What is so bad about it? why does everyone hate the look...i kinda like it.

Mine is decent, but I know a lot of people that a get a milky look to the window where the tint is over the matrix....looks like ass...it's not the tint that looks bad, it's the fact it doesn't stick well that we don't like. :)

Wow, this whole time I was talking about painting it from the outside. Guys, I dont think i got the skill and accuracy to paint it from the inside..is there an easy way to remove the glass or is it glued?

think of it this way, if you paint the outside, it's going to be hittin the elements so much that i would be suprised if it last more than 2 summers. Get the spray paint you want, spray it in the lid of the paint, and use a foam brush from the inside... but keep a razor handy, just incase of runs, and also throw down an old blanket so it does get on the seats... may want to think about removing the headliner first, too.

They sell paint in little cans too. I keep some handy for touchups.
