Ok to start off, yes i have a fart can right now...but not as loud as some out there.(thank god) I really want to get a new exhaust system or just a new muffler. I believe i have about 2½ in piping from the cat to the muffler.

I was searching and most fo the 96-98 owners have flowmaster mufflers. Some of the flowmasters i have found are the 40,50 and 30 series with a single in and single out muffler. I have done searches on the fourm too and alot of people have the 80 series on theirs but that is the GT models with the single in dual out and etc. but i have an SE with a single. I want something that isnt too loud but has a good rumbling sound...light rumbling sound. I clicked on the link for sound clips but they have nothing for the 2.4 under GM. The links for the FAQ is mainly for the 99+ vehicles.

I just wanted to get some questions i had answered for future references.

What is a good muffler for the 96-98 SE with a good sound, poweful but not too loud and smooth? Basically a single in to single out.

Should i get all new piping when i get a new muffler or just find a muffler that can connect with my piping?

Anything else i should be concerned about or consider before i do it? and after?

Ive seen some tips for the mufflers but i didnt know what other people found most appealing before i choose one of my own. anything?

Thanks

On a 2.4, a flowmaster usually sounds worse than a fart-cannon. Avoid chambered mufflers - they 'reflect' the raspy sound right out. I recommend Borla or Dynomax (or similar glass/steel filled straight-thru design) for deep but mellow tone.

I agree with Matt. Ive got 2 flowmaster 40s right now.. they sound good below 2k rpms, but anything higher RPMS makes it sound really bad:( . Im doing my exhaust again soon and going with a dynomax of some kind, but have yet to decide.

Ok, I was looking into the dynomax websites (which they did an awesome job with) I have listened to them and heard sound clips and the closest one i could find is the Jeep liberty with the 2.8l and it sounds ok, the honda civic with the 1.8 still sounds ricey.

I was looking into it and i found one that might work. im just confused about some things.

I didnt just jump to the name of the muffler....dont worry :D

When im looking through this and they have all of the "side-center" "center-center" stuff like that... I know that its how the flow will go. Im just wondering what my GA is.

Ill take pics of my piping to help tomorrow.

My Magnaflow is just piping from the cat straight back to the round muffler. Since the Dynomax muffler is kinda...odd :) i was wondering what fitment would be best for the muffler and the curve in the back bumper? And of course there is no direct fit for the GAs :roll2:

Thanks

P.S. as for the borla...The closest thing i found was the Scion tC with the 2.4....then my wallet had a heart attack.

When i bought my mufflers i went with center in, center out on both and they fit just fine. And I've seen a number of people get that muffler that you linked, but havent read anything either way about thow they felt about it. did you search real quick on here to see if anything came up about it?:)
