um, the HO is just as fast, if not faster then the 3400. Plus it has a 5speed. something the 3400 doesnt have.

Agreed, the HO has 180 horses and the 3400 has 175 and is connected to one shitty auto trans. Stay with the quad, they get decent milage too, just Keep any eye on coolant and change the coolant Anually with brand new coolant, this will prevent a headgasket failure Quads are famous for. So DO NOT neglect the cooling system

Well i love grand ams. I know they have alot of power with the quad, but with drving 45mins one way to school this year coming up. I need something that i can drive and wont break down. Like the quads are know for. So thats why i was thinking about going with the 3400 with sime bolt ons. I know i will need a wire from a 3100,but will the 3400 bolt up to my tranny??? Thanks for the help so far! Plus i found a 97 gt wih leather and was wonder if i can use the front and back seats, will they bolt up? The car is in the local junk yard. And can get the parts dirt cheap beacuse i know the guy.

It's generally very difficult to swap to an engine outside of the same family. Wiring will be a mess... need engine harness, gauge cluster, PCM from a 94-95 3100 V6 GA, etc. Mounts will have to be cut/welded. The existing 5-speed you have will not bolt directly to the 3x00 engines.

What year is Quad 4 car? The later ones are quite reliable with proper maintenance. In the last 6.5 years (150K+ between 2 cars) driving Quad 4's, I've never been left completely stranded. Any failure I've had was directly my fault. With the 3x00 LIM gasket issues, I wouldn't necessarily put them ahead of the later Quad 4's in terms of reliability. On top of that, such a swap would "frankenstein" the car, negating any such reliability.

The seats should fit... 92-98 are essentially the same.

PS - In the future, please don't cross-post the same topic to multiple sections.

Yea the 3100/3400 is no where NEAR reliable, LIM failure costing just as much as a headgasket for your car. Id say thier the same, they both have the ups and downs. the 2.3 just doesnt have as much torque is all. I guess if you look at it, they both just have 1 major defect, both gaskets ironicly, lol. Other than that theres nothing thier famous for.

Thanks for the help cant beat 500 for the car 2 door with a 5 speed, and 100 for a full leather interior out of a 97 gt for 100. So think im going to pick it up.
