IMO putting exhaust on a car with no mufflers or Cats is a bad idea unless it's on a race only car.

I remived my cat today actually and its sounds much beefier and it gives a little extra pep, but i kept my muffler. I would say at least do a muffler but other than that u dont need anything. the 3100 sounds mean no matter what u do and if u go mufflerless u will just be payin hundreds of dollars in tickets, plus straight pipe would elminate too much backpressure and take away all the torque that a V6 is known for.
So in conclusion at least have a muffler.
Peace,
Andrew
PS for the purposes if this conversation no cat removal was done on my car.

The 3100 sounds better with mufflers. I've heard one setup both ways. When he put mufflers on it with new piping, track ET's when way down. (in other words, straight pipes did nothing except sound bad)

What?
I like the sound of 3100's and 3400's with no muffs.
If you live in a place like michigan you wont ever get a ticket.

or just get a cutout put on then you can choose when you want to be loud and open.

Bad Idea.
We ran Robs car with no exhaust when he put the test pipes on and it sounds like PooPoo.

it's just for how little performence a new muffler would add i really don't to buy one when i work at machine shop and it would be super easy to get straghit pipes

3300 Straight pipes (http://www.rohrage.com/exhaust.mp3)
heres my 3300 with straight pipes... sounds a lot better in person, but its all a matter of perspective. ive been told it sounds great, and that it sounds like shit. one thing i have to bring up is the exhaust will actually rattle bolts and such free, so after a few months driving u will get rattles here and there. nothing a quick tightening wont fix, but you have to be prepared for the hastle. also, you have to be aware of the police (at least i do here). i just got fined $60 cause the state troopers dont agree with my opinion of how my exhaust should sound :P . if you have any questions feel free to ask, and ill do my best to answer them. in the mean time ill see if i have a better sound clip for you.

I like the redneck sound of straight pipes cause i live and was raised here in this small a$$ city. but my quistion is would there be enough back pressure or would it just kill your bottom end power?
I imagine if you left the cat on it would provide suffician back pressure. but what if your were to go straights from the headerds back say 2.5" But with removal of everything you might have to worry about cold air reaching your valves after shut down and them getting worped.
Just looking for opinions thanks guys.

I think with a Stock 3400.
2.25" Straight pipes would be good for performance.
For Highly Modified 3400's a 2.5" Straight Pipe setup would be okay.
