So here's the story:
I went out last night planning on looking at an '04 GAGT 4dr, and stumbled accross an '02 GAGT 2dr. At first I looked at the year, and thought no way - I wanted something newer and 4dr. But I testdrove both nevertheless. I really did not like the '04. It felt stiff, sputtered when I started it, and just all around felt wrong, if that makes sense?!? But the '02 was a whole different story - it fired right up, and purred like a kitten, was very responsive, handled extremely well, and was a real pleasure to drive.

The mileage on the '02 is only 41K, and asking price is 11,900$. Is there anything in particular I should look for (problem wise) on that year? Does the price seem reasonable? I must admit I fell in love with it right away, so much so, that I am no longer considering the '04, however I would really appreciate any input. Thx in advance :)

The '02 with that few KMs should be a decent car. Be aware that the 2400 V6 is known for LIM gasket leaks, and it can be a costly repair (Upwards of $1000 CDN if done by a dealer). As well, front wheel speed sensors and rotors do not have much life expectancy, although there are aftermarket replacements now which are much better.

Test drive the '02 again, and bring along someone to help you find faults. Right now you're emotionally attached to it, so an outside opinion won't hurt. Give it a GOOD look for previous collision damage, scrapes, dings, misaligned panels, water leaks, etc. And for certain look at the engine for signs of the dreaded LIM gasket leak. Check the oil to ensure color is good and that there is no coolant in it, and check the coolant to ensure that it looks good too. Check the other fluids while you're at it.

All in all though, it sounds pretty solid. The price isn't unreasonable for that many KMs. Assuming it's a GT (Not GT1) in good condition, it's black book value is $10,500.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Thx for your advice Shawn, I appreciate it! I'm planning on getting the GM extended warranty too, since the car is being bought from a dealer, and I'll make sure to check all the fluids and look for leaks! After reading a lot of the posts, I'm still not quite sure how to tell the dif between GT and GT1 though :( Where can I check VIN's btw, for vehicle history?

For vehicle history with a VIN#, Carfax is the place. However it's not 100% accurate, as it will only display what has been reported. If someone has an accident that doesn't get reported, it won't show on the vehicle's history report.

As far as GT/GT1, easiest way to tell is if it has leather interior. It's not 100% accurate either, but generally if it has leather interior it's a GT1.
