I just got a 2004 GA tonight, and I love it. It has the base model cd player, and I don't like it very well. Plus the display isn't lighting up for some reason?
Anyway I want to replace this with a different headunit. I already have a JVC cd player I had in my 92, and I want to use it until I get a better one. I will also be adding an amp/sub combo, but I already know how to hook these up to my headunit.
My question is, will everything in my car still function correctly if I put a new headunit in? Or do I have to buy or do special things to get everything working right?
Thanks for the help.

You CAN buy special things to make them work better but if you know how to hook the amp up to your HU and battery and to the trunk then everything should work ok by themselves. Depending on how many watts your amp is the battery should be able to handle it as so will your alt.
In short....it will run correctly.....if you dont screw up :D
Am i missing anything?

Alright, so basically from reading around the site about the only thing that I will lose are the door chimes by putting a different headunit in?

yea....I kinda wish i had them back....but too late now.
Make sure you get some good wiring...They sell them at wal-mart but i wouldnt reccommend that....i dont know how many people have it but i have Rockford Fosgate wiring which can handle up to 1800 watts...i bought it knowing i would upgrade my system later.
BTW what sub combo do you have?

Well, right now I had a crappy 10" MTX sub that is pretty much blown, and a 400 watt Jensen amp thats in my 92. Im not even bothering putting this in my 04, I am going to buy new stuff. Im thinking about getting a 12" Alpine sub, and a Profile California amp...not sure yet

well before you decide on an amp. look around and search on here what others are using for amps. Dont settle for the cheap stuff.
I remember that combo....they sold that at wal-mart.

Its best to do a little research first when the correct is very easy to obtain, then to guess and spout wrong info. get some sleep. :)

Has anyone used this kit to retain the factory chimes and everything else?

How does it work? I've decided I want the chimes, and I don't want to have to tap into the fuse box the the 12 volt line, and I also don't want to have to relocate my factory unit.

Okay, from what I have read, the Metra chime module is the one to get. It has the 12v line, and everything ready to go including a chime box. Why is it that you can't make the chime still go through the left speaker instead of the chime box? Also how does this unit add a 12 volt line? I don't see how you can't make something similar at home, and have the chime go through the speaker like normal....
