Well I think it's called inverting a sub if you flip it and mount it to were the magnet is sticking out. If not oh well, ya got the point, anyways does it mess with the sound of the sub if I did invert them? Would I need to build I different size box or what? I have no idea about flipping the sub and if it would sound different.

I think the reason why subs are usually installed facing the back of the trunk is so that the"thump" has something to hit then it bounces off the back of your trunk to produce the bass/noise. If you were to invert the sub, and make the magnet show instead of the front, the bass has nothing to bounce off of, if u plan to have a open box, and if u were to have a normal ported or sealed box, then first, there is very minimal space in there to produce anything, and also when it bounces back, in goes toward the back of your car, instead of the front!

I might be totally wrong, so if anybody has anything to add, or change to my post, be my guest!

Inverting your subs does basically nothing aside from show off the hind end. Obviously, the internal volume of your box is going to change without the magnet in there, so if you have a box built to your exact liking, then you'd have to build a new box, but the average person isn't going to notice any difference. The only other thing would be if you had one (or more) sub(s) facing out and the other(s) facing in then you'd have to adjust the phasing accordingly, but that's pretty much it.

Here's (http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/search.asp?KW=inverted&SM=1&SI=TC&FM=2&OB=1&Submit=Start+Search) a bunch more info on inverting subs if you're interested.

I had planned on doing two subs inverted and two subs mounted regular. Thanks for the info and the link.

i had inverted subs for a while. yes, they do need to be wired accordingly (change + and -). you will also notice a decrease on sound from them due to less exposed cone area. it will help with the cooling of the voice coils, as well as look good.

once i changed to a new box and the subs were mounted normally, my output just about doubled. some of that can be accounted for by the new box design, but a lot of that is also because if the increased cone area.

Also keep in mind that you should wire them backwards (OR invert the signal in your amp OR your hu) if you mount them backwards.
