My 93 grand am has rough suspension, I dont expect it to feel like some kinda luxury ride... but small road imperfections feel like earthquakes if you drive over them in my car.
is it just a poor suspension design to begin with or is there a way to help correct this?
I currently have the stock springs and bearing plates, with replaced economy struts and shock absorbers in the rear.
is it worth spending $400 for a new set of struts up front?
im assuming the monroe strut + new coil spring will make a huge difference, but wanted to check with everyone else before I make the purchase.
is monroe worth it or are they crap?

Monroe is a stock replacement strut. if your struts are worn enough so that you need new struts you can do for it, but theyre not any better than new stock ones. If you want a cheaper setup, I run gabriels, which can be found at autozone or ebay readily for our cars, and they do the job nicely.

I got new monroes and the ride didn't get all that better...lol. It was less bouncy. You have an SE though and may have a softer suspension. Personally I don't think anything 8 years or older will ride like new again even with everything replaced.
If you have to money though, I would replace the bearing plates or you may get clunks and pops because of a worn out bearing. You'de hate to do all that work then pretty much have to do it all over again.

so probably not worth $400 then...
should probably just get struts, boots, mounts and a new set of coil springs?
coil springs do lose a fair bit of "springyness" with age and having a couple hundred pounds of car constantly resting on them right?
not worth risking injury compressing these old springs again... they probably would snap.
there is a little bit of clunking going over bumps, probably the strut mounts (100% has ot be, replaced everything else). However, the vehicle has no steering problems as of yet (the wheel returns to center when completeing left / right turns & the wheels move freely in either direction.

should probably just get struts, boots, mounts and a new set of coil springs? The quick strut comes with all that , and you just bolt them in . If you just want stock replacements they will be OK .
