Im pretty sure that it wont hurt your car. Im also pretty sure that its super illegal so dont get caugt... with that out of the way im pretty sure that ive read on here that you can get a high flow cat if you want, and that on the grand am engine the cat dosnt really cause any backflow problems anyway.

i was thinking of removeing the cat on my 97 3.1Why ? your not going to get any big power gains , your low end response is gonna suffer and the exhaust is gonna smell like :shit:

Most muffler shops won't remove the cat, if they did it wouldn't be worth the $$$ you would spend. If you did it yourself, it wouldn't be worth the time. Plus, the cost of a ticket for not having it is more than a new muffler or highflow cat anyway.

it's obd2; the o2 sensor after the cat will tell the pcm that the catalytic efficency is bad, and will set off the SES light

you'll need a o2 sim; available from PFYC. That's fifty bucks right there.

You love sleepers and you want a loud car.. ok.

Save up some money and do it right.

Removing a cat is fairly simple.. WRX owers decat the up pipe all the time, but they still have two more cats behind the turbo and can pass a sniffer test with those two. Removing the cat itself is fairly involved (http://webpages.charter.net/baraboo_halls/auto/wrx/up/uppipe_fix.html). Again, it's illegal to do so; the best thing to do would be to get a high-flowing cat.. but people are saying that you won't see much of a different completely catless and catted, so..

The cat shouldn't kill backpressure. Only way it'll improve your car is if it's bad, or getting clogged...

straight pipes are going to be much louder than any exhaust system. The quitest exhaust system out there for the GA's is probably the BORLA. Look in to that if you want to spend some money.
