.... Were they for the GA or the GP? And for what year - '92 and up?

TIA

It was for the Grand Prix (97+ I believe). Funny thing because I believe the older ones had a wider track than the current ones. :)

I think they came out with that in 97 when they came out with the new GP that was larger and wider

Thanks for the replies, folks. :)

But how much wider is the "widetrack" GP compared to a GA of the same year? And for that matter, how much wider is it than a '92-'95 GA?

I'm just curious, as I've seen a lot of newer GAs and GPs lately, and I don't see the difference. But then, I've never compared them side by side.

The original Wide Track Pontiac ads started in 1960......the Pontiac's were about an inch to 2 inches wider than any other car on the road.... that's where the whole thing started.

Really? I knew they were wider, but I didn't know they had ads for it back then too. I know my '79 Trans Am and '76 Formula took up alot of parking space:agree: :D

Yeah, Pontiacs have been the 'wide track' cars for a lot of years. I remember some of the old wide track ads, for the Firebird for one.

When the 1997 GP came out I remember reading the test for it in Car & Driver and they said it was significantly wider than the previous generation. If you see them side by side you can notice it, not only in the body width, but track as well.

For sure the GP is a wider car than the GA, again both in body width & track, not to mention longer in wheelbase as well.

Y'all might think I'm dumb or something, but I never even knew the GA and the GP were actually different cars, until I got the GT last year  :D I mean, they look alot alike to the untrained eye... right? lol

Untrained eye? And you're a photographer? I thought photogs had a keen eye for detail, texture, subtleties, perspective, etc.?

Just yanking your chain! :D

The GP is a little smoother looking, rounded at the tail, more so than the current generation of GA.

I'm sure if ya saw them side by each, the differences would be readily apparent.

Cheers!

the main diffrence i see from the GA and GP (besides the pricetag) is the headlights, the gp's are alot shorter, wider and more of an oval shape, well that and the grill, heck the whole front end.

Go to http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/pontiac/index.html

and pick GA and then the GP. Use the 360 degree view of the cars. The differences can be seen.

More directly, the size differences also dictate the styling to a degree.

GA: Wheelbase 107"
Track (Fr/Rr) 59"/59.1"
Length 186.3"
Width 70.4"
Weight 3115 lbs.
Height 55.1"

GP: Wheelbase 110.5"
Track (Fr/Rr) 61.7"/61.1"
Length 197.5"
Width 72.7"
Weight 3496 lbs.
Height 54.7"

LOL You got me there! I guess I never really paid that much attention, I've always been in the market for the sleeker coupes (TAs, Corvettes, etc), but recently I decided to choose economy over sleekness, hehe, so gave the GAs some overdue attention. I've always liked them, though, and they look slippery enough to keep me happy. ;)

As for the GP's wider track, I think that stuffing some rims into the GA with just the right amount of offset would pretty much eliminate the 2" difference, if one were so inclined.
