Yeah...this has probaly been asked a million times...heh.

I have a 1996 GA SE 3.1 with the stock exhuast...I don't want anything all performancy that costs hundreds of dollars...just something simple to make the exhuast sound louder. I realize that it could cost a hundred dollars but what exactly do I do - to do it? I figure the whole muffler has to be replaced to get the louder effect...or is it just the tip? Sorry for the noobish questions....i couldnt find anything in search, didnt know what terms to look up heh.

Replace the resonator with a straight pipe, and you can delete the cat but I wouldn't recommend it.

First off...I've read the FAQ. I wasn't aware you have to replace the whole exhaust system to get the simple louder sound...or am i wrong? Because thats like 600 bux for a simple sound...ive seen civics and cavalliers that simply take a swap on the muffler or tip to get it sounding alot deeper...

You can have a shop put on just a muffler and tips to get the sound , just don't expect much in the way of performance . http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21154&highlight=muffler

you can have a performance exhaust without costing you hundreds. I had piping and a flowmaster muffler put on for under 200 bucks. with bigger piping installed. dont cheap out and get a cheap ass muffler to make a domestic sound like a civic

Yeah...thats what I was thinking. Do they simply just bolt on..? I'd assume so seeing how everything is connected. So if I was to buy a Flowmaster 80, I've heard them before in person and they sound quite nice, i could simply just swap that with my stock muffler and throw a tip on it? Thanks for bareing with me everyone...i appricate it more than most people would think heh

Drill a bunch of 1/2" holes into your muffler.. that should do the trick.

changing the stock muffler to a flowmaster 80 isnt a bolt on thing. the stock muffler had the pipe go straight into the back of the muffler... the fflowmaster 80 has it coming in from the side... if you got a pipe bender welder and a grinder and are comfortable doing it, go for it... otherwise id pay someone to do it.

there is no bolt on exhaust other then the SLP and Boral exhaust, but those are 500 bucks and up.

Just go to different exhaust shops and get quotes for what you wanting. If you want all new piping say you want a cat-back exhaust setup so they know you want piping after the cat. A general rule of thumb is the more bending and welding they have to do the more its going to cost so try to get the setup simple.

My next setup is going to be a MagnaFlow 6inch round straight muffler right after the cat then piping to the rear axel then a Y pipe after the axel to 2 dual tips

OMG, thats genius! I've been wondering what I was going to do when I replace my exhaust, because I wanted to keep the dual exit without having to buy two mufflers, which worried me because of the two seperate sizes of the mufflers. Genius!!

its sort of a straight pipe setup but atleast I have a "muffler" of some sort in the setup so hopefully it sounds decent. Buddy of mine has a 03 Sunfire with the Ecotech in it with this setup and it sounds good, not raspy at all. I'll to get with him before I get it done and see what exactly he as done cuz he doesn't have many motor mods, prolly just a CAI or WAI

I'd imagine it would sound just fine on our cars as well. It's certainly a great cost effective way of doing a muffler setup, because at this point, you're paying $115 for one muffler, instead of two, and if you go for some nice looking tips, about $50 per, plus the cost of piping. I'd imagine it would cost less than $450 all together, which is excellent.
