i was thinking about getting a new battery for my car. the optima deep cycle looks great, my friend said that you shouldnt run your car off of a deep cycle battery though... its not good for it or something. what are the cons of this type of battery?
if it is bad i would use it in my trunk to run most of my audio. this may seem like a newb question but, how would i have to charge the battery? do you have to run the alternator to it somehow? or take it out and charge it?

but your redtop isn't a deep cycle. the yellow top is a deep cycle.
i've heard that running them all the time isn't good, but i know too many people that run a deep cycle and dont have any problems out of it to believe it.
if you have the battery in your trunk you have it hooked up like an amp....pos. to pos. and the negative to a GOOD ground point. while the alt is charging the battery under your hood it's in effect trickle charging the one in the trunk. :) but if you do put one in the trunk make sure both batteries are fully charged when you hook them up. so while you're doing everything take them off and put them on a battery charger

You need an isolator to run 2 batteries. There's really no point in that setup unless you do SPL competitions.
Redtop is a great upgrade from a standard battery. Mine is 4+ years old, and had withstood plenty of abuse from stereo, accesory load, and neglect (car sitting in winter not run for weeks at a time). A yellowtop is a step up from that... but is really only necessary if you plan to run stereo with the car off. Traditional deep cycle batteries are not known for starting, however this isn't an issue with the yellowtops, so don't worry about it.

When the battery in my car died, i just went up to Autozone and got a new one. Duralast, i think. Unless you are running mega power, you really don't need 2 batteries. I have been running my amp/subs off my Duralast battery for a while now, and I have no power problems.

well i have quite a bit of audio equiptment, x2 1000 peak amps and a 4 channel 110 rms amp with x2 solobaric 12'' L5's and all new spakers. i have a 3 farad cap hooked up but i noticed a few times at night my lights are dimming pretty badly.
i guess ill go with the red top, one question, what is cca? i saw a 720 and a 800 i think, does one hold more or what?
