Ok, after i got back from the mechanics i headed over to best buy to see if they could fix my amp wiring problem. I was looking in their car audio section. I was talking to paul about this and i want about 300 to 400 rms for personal sound. I dont want a monster sound system just something personal.
I was talking with 2 guys over there (who actually knew something about car audio) and they said for that kind of power they told me to look into an Alpine Type-R 12". the type-r is about 1500peak and about 500rms. I tested it and it had a good sound, crisp and tight.
I looked into some Rockford Fosgate Punch 1,2 and 3. they said they have had alot of bring backs for the 1 and 2 because the cone cracks alot. I was like "they turn it all the way up the day they get it huh?" hes like yeah.
He hooked up the type-r to a mono block alpine amp. The amp says its about 400rms x1 at 2ohms. It did sound nice to me and then i decided on that setup. I really just want one sub because of room issues in my trunk.
I just wanted to know is this a good setup for me? To what i want as i explained in the first paragraph. Do you have any advice?
Here are the specs on both subs and amp.
Amp (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7652532&type=product&id=1134701297968)
Sub (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7057383&type=product&id=1108124880979)
Im sorry for the long post bt i wanted to do something more than a one sentence post saying "Do you think this is good?" Also how do you go about changing the impedance to 2ohms so i can get the 400rms to go to the sub.
Thank you for any advice.

Good for a personal system. Alpine is a good brand and that is a good sub. IMO its a good set up.
As for the wiring....
You have a dvc 4 ohm sub
and your amp is 400w rms x 1 at 2ohm
So u want to wire the sub to 2 ohm right?
If so u need to wire the sub in parallel
Which is (pos to pos) on the sub, then to the pos on the amp
and........(neg to neg) on the sub, then to the neg on the amp
That would produce a 2ohm load.
Somebody check my calcualtions on this one, i think im right
Good luck with the sub/amp.

ok on the sub you chose there are two voice coils. each voice coil is 4 ohms. and there is a positive and negative for both voice coils as well. from the positive on the amp go to the positive on the first voice coil. then from the positive of that voice coil go to the positive of the second voice coil. Now from the negative side of the amp go to the negative side of the first voice coil. go from the negative of the first voice coil to the negative of the second voice coil. there's your long winded version of what Mike said. That will give you the 2 ohms you are looking for. if you want to math for it(if this confuses you don't look at it) (4x4)/(4+4)= 2 there's your math Mike.

Ok i got it (and no the math didnt confuse me) Im actually kinda good at math. Its just i havent been to bed and things get blurry and such.
Thank you for it and thanks Mike.

Your Welcome, i just wanted to make sure it was right. Im still new to car audio and I'm trying to learn everything at once, but I think I got the wiring down, lol.
Good Luck with the setup:D
I wired my subs up, with 4ohm dvc, and they work, lol

Although, they do take up a lot of space

sounds a lot like my sub setup. i have an alpine mrp-350 (350W @ 2 ohms) and a 12" alpine type S (300 W rms, and its wired for 2 ohms) i also have 4 other aftermarket composite pioneers amped. but as far as the bass goes from the sub, its absolutely great, alpine makes primo products. if you go with that you wont be dissapointed if youre just looking for a nice personal (that is dont wanna wake the neighbors) system. I have a type S, so i can imagine that a type R would just be that much better. also, dont worry about wiring it incorrectly, alpine makes it really easy, gives u diagram and jumpers that make it extremely simple.

In case you're more of a visual learner, here's a pic of the wiring for a dual voice coil sub down to 2 ohms:

I also run a single Type S at 2 ohms off a Pioneer GM-7100 (around 360W RMS) in a sealed box and it sounds great. Nice and clean and plently loud. I have a good friend with a Type R in his '06 Eclipse and he loves it. There are a lot of people out there who aren't big fans of Alpine amps, but I hear only good things first hand.
