I was wondering if it was possible to put 4 6.5 inch speakers into a 99 pontiac grandam coupe as i have the possibility to get 4 rather cheap. I want to put 2 in the back and 2 in the front (in the door panels) i saw this was possible on earlier than 98s and was wondering if this also applied to a 99. Thanks!
You would need to make an adapter to make the 6.5's fit where the factory 6x9's are currently, but yes it is possible, I think the sound would be lacking though, since the 6x9's give decent bass, and the 6.5's woudl change that sound int he back, but it definitely is possible

Oh? maybe i am mistaken. Is there a page that has the audio specs all put togeather for a 99 grandam? i thought there were 4.5"s in the front.

they are 4x6's in the front and 6x9's in the back...the back is what Blake was referring to.
You can fit 6.5's in the front, depending on depth. There is a how-to in this section's FAQ's. But like Blake said, you can get adapters that will allow you to put 5.25 or 6.5" speakers where a 6x9 goes. :)

Definately doable with the right adapters, but BLake is right, if you're not running subs you'll probably notice a loss of boom.

Ok. Is it possible to do 4 6x9s? (i am kinda OCDIsh in the fact that i'd perfer all one size (and it will be LOUD hehe))

anything is possible, but if would take rediculous modifications to do that...
They don't have to be one size. You have to taylor the size to what you're trying to accomplish. If you want good sound without a sub, then stick with 6x9's in the back. If you want to add a sub, go with 5.25's or 6.5's all around for better sound quality.
...if your desicion is goint to be soley based on being OCD then do what you want.

Its really not that hard to custom make a back dash. My g/f and i did that to her Olds Delta 88. Was able to fit 4 6x9s. I know its a bigger car but there is a guy here in my apts. that had an old honda civic with 4 of them back there. its really doable. just how much time and effort you want to put in.

Maybe I just keep missing something, but i think he means, 6x9's in the front and back....two in the front, two in the back...4 6x9's.

i meant 2 front 2 back. If it isn't possible.. i DO plan to add a base at somepoint. so should i do all 6.5s? Or should i just do 6x9s in the back 5.4s in the front and then just later add a sub? I am somewhat tone deaf ( i can't tell the difference between say bose or sony speakers ) the only thing i REALLY REALLY desire is something loud that other normal nonaudiophiles can listen to that won't crackle with loud bass stuff or during rock music ( my biggest thing i HATE is crackling ) Thanks.

I say do 6.5's in the back, and either 6.5's or 5.25's (not 5.4 BTW) in the front and add a sub...that'll sound good. :)

I suppose a better question is do i even really need a sub if i don't listen to hiphop/rap etc? i mainly listen to bass.

I'm guessing you meant to say you listen to rock...I do too, and I wouldn't go without a sub. A sub isn't just for turning your brain to mush from the insane bass lines of rap...a sub can also really fill in your music. Music is soo much more intense and alive, when it has good bass to it. You don't need much, but more than what full range speakers can do. :)

thats exactly what i meant. sorry my brains are a bit scrambled. So would you recommend all 6.5's and than an upgrade to a subwoofer at a later date? or would the 6x9s and 5.4s with a later subwoofer be OK too? ( The upgrade may not be for some time. ) thanks for all your help btw =]

If you want some decent bass now, go with 6x9's in the back and 5.25's in the front and add the sub later. but if you can live with virtually no bass until you upgrade, then 5.25's or 6.5's all around would work....it's really what you want now and what your planning on doing in the future. One thing to remember, round speakers will give better sound quality then oval ones. No problem man...that's what we're here for. :)
